How are you bending your tubes? They look good. One characteristic Dunstall (Dr. Blair) used for 2 into 1 into 2 was to step up the size of the tubing at every joint so the end tubes were 1/4" wider than the headers.

Jean,

I've looked through the site with the progress on the bike; I was completely blown away by what you have achieved, and the custom components. Well done. A fantastic piece of engineering.

I bought a set of mandrel bent pipes on e-bay. Although I wanted 1 3/8" pipes to be like the stock Norton ones, the smallest available cheap on e-bay were 1½" but that seem to be OK. I have ordered a "Y" connector coupled to a megaphone from an outfit in California, that will be coupled to what I have done so far. I think it should look pretty good. The only downside to the pipes, I will have to take them off to jack the bike up.

Thanks, wait until I start on my Commando :D

Jean, I like it. Especially the belt drive setup. Looks good. The little Hitachi alternator is an interesting way to make it narrow. It's good to see something a little out of the ordinary now and then. Jim

Jean, you need to add more bend to the bottom bend ABOVE the point where it now starts, or you are going to have the pipes barely a few inches off the ground!

I would think he is now going to fit from the bottom up, And those ends will be trimmed to fit the next bend.

Can you tell me the name of the company? I'm looking for a two-into-one setup, or just a "Y" connector so I can make my own.

I ordered from http://www.spdexhaust.com/ they have a great site and knoledgeable people on the phone. Not cheap and I will tell all how how good it is when I get it. I have searched the web for a while and there are many outfits selling collectors, but not many with small diameter pipes like those used on motorcycles.

GP, as Bobby McFerrin would say, "don't worry, be happy" The picture doesn't show it well, the pipes hug he frame pretty close (too close??) and before I get the collector I can't cut the downpipes yet. It is easier to cut a pipe that is too long rather than extending one that is too short

the 71 (reformed) basketcase looks like a basketcase again compared to this fine specimen!

I may have missed the posting: is that an electronic speedometer? if yes, what kind, where is it from?

Don't count yourself short, your 71 looks fantastic.

The speedo is a KOSO ( http://www.kosonorthamerica.com/ ) They have a slew of models, this is the simplest one without any idiot lights or tachometer. I feel it is better than a bicycle speedo if only because it is lighted and the numbers are much bigger (helps with poor close up vision)

Thanks very much: that's in part due to your help with wiring questions way back when.......

I'll check out that site: I'm looking for simplicity: currently running without tach/speedo and I just can't afford to throw down for the beautiful colorado norton works set

thanks again

Making progress on the exhaust. I received the collector I ordered from SPD, it is exactly what I was expecting, top quality as can be seen on this picture:

I finished the downpipes, I will grind those welds too and add tabs to hook hold down springs, then I will modify the megaphone into a muffler, stay tuned :D
