Once I got them apart it became apparent that the center was indeed quite worn.

It is showing some wear but not as badly worn as the one I removed from my Mk3. :)

Very notched. Sintered bronze plates likely.

Yes, replaced with Surflex (S2125/B) fibre although they still have steel backing plates, same as the bronze.

Do you find steel backing plates advantageous to aluminum? Though I haven't seen enough mention of it to appear to be a huge issue, the wear at the teeth of the old Barnett set I replaced has me wondering.

I've never used Barnett alloy-backed friction plates so I can't comment but the plate tangs apparently wear more rapidly so an owner ends up replacing the plates instead of the clutch centre.
