Is putting a Mk3 cover on an earlier bike a good idea?
Does the stock Mk3 item fit the earlier models, or is the Andover item modified somehow?

The Mk3 cover has an anti-drain valve, although a valve can be fitted to the earlier covers, if required (AMR conversion) It also has a removable plug for checking the timing chain tension and the oil from the OPRV discharges into the timing chest instead of being returned the inlet side of the oil pump.

As far as I know, it fits the earlier models with the 'camshaft' points (so not 20M3 models) using the extra Mk3 components as shown in the AN kit.

Friend had a problem with a new(?) timing cover. As is normal once he had sorted it I heard about it. As he is trying to run a business servicing peoples Nortons etc this was a problem. Being an inquisitive soul he spent hours investigating for which of course as per usual he could not charge the customer. He put the cover up and digitally checked all the holes to the drawing......not a problem.....He eventually found it.....the hole that locates the idler shaft was NOT at right angles to the timing cover face.....someone had done some welding and it had pulled the hole over......
