madass,
As my MKIII is down to the frame being preped for paint. I guess now would be a good time to consider adding the rearset.
Very interested in what you come up with.

I would have to say my Norman Hyde rearsets are the bees knees-give the bike a nice modern riding position.Nothing gets doubled up,just a really nice riding position.I would just make a copy of them.

I just found a set of MK3 rearsets that I didnt know I had, they are the Clubman or OldBritts type, they are missing the alloy mounting block for the right side , does any one know if this alloy mount is the same as the left side or is it a completely different casting ?

If I were you I'd be copying the Norman Hydes-great for daily drivers!!!

Since I have 2 MKIII's, I'm good for at least one set madass140 :D thanks for your efforts on this.

it is impossible to make one style of rearsets to please everybody, like most other parts.
I will be producing rearsets like the ones shown, thats the decision I made and wont be changing.
sorry to those who would like Norman Hyde or any other style.

Hi Guys,

ive been folowing this page forum for years, since i decided that one day i would take over my late fathers engineering business. i was mainly using it to gauge the market, but two years ago, i decided to make the jump.
The business was called Unibend in England, and was set up to help Unity after they nought the rights to John Tickle and the manx norton.
Mty dad started in the 80's making swept back exhausts and megas, then went on to make Tickle Clipons and the M&D rearsets you all speak of.
But sadly died road racing at olivers mount in 1997. At which point my grandad, who part owned Unity at the time, stepped in a ran it until he retired. He handed it to my uncle who ran it down, until it closed 3 years ago.

We were then left with the decision of what to do with the business and all its history, so me and my younger brother decided to start it back up in the same way, by making exhaust and megas with the guidance of my grandad, and im now in the process of sorting through all the rearset Jigs and patterns with the intention of getting all of them back into production again.

it will take abit of time... im 28 and learning as i go a long, but hopefully with some help from my dads mates that also worked on the rearsets in the past, iwill have them back in production again soon.

I hope this clears a few things up for you guys.

if you want any more info, please send us an email and i will get back to you.
or search for us on facebook, hopefully we will also have a website up on the web soon, once weve managed to fill it with 50 years of history......

Good luck with your enterprise, Ben. Somewhere back in the '80s I bought a Manx mega from Unity. Maybe it was made by your dad.

I personally would like on the brake pedal to be extended down about 1 to 1 1/2 inches for my old ankles. Otherwise my set of clubman rear sets are Perfect.

the connecting rod on both brake and clutch has a fair bit of adjustment on the clevis, my tester in OZ will be assessing these kind of issues.

The reason I say this is, to properly clear the top of the fluid cap when applying the brake, I find I've had to set it high on the Clevis blocks, then I have to lift my foot to place it on the pedal. The extra inch would just give a bit more clearance.

Has anyone made progress on manufacturing the rear sets?

I can't find any vendors that are currently selling the Mk III rear sets. Does anyone know of any vendors?

yes progress is underway, I sent a set for evaluation to Australia but the tester had lots of health issues and evaluation was not completed.
The left side is complete and under production, I'm waiting for a MK3 kickstart lever to arrive to ensure there is no clearance issues, a few weeks away yet.

Look on ebay (uk site) there is a Norman Hyde set on a the minute an for mk3 it says. They have cast plates with word Hyde on them. They look good quality from the photos but I never knew Hyde made them for Commando but they look far better than most I've seen. Though I have a mk2a so they would be of no use to me.

Thanks, Toppy. I sent a message to him through Ebay. His auction states that he only ships to the UK. I asked him if he would be willing to post to the US. If he doesn't, maybe I can find someone in the UK who will ship them to me...
