Been beavering away on this project, seriously had the MC assembled and apart 10 times. worked real hard to align the holes in the sleeve with the body ports both lat and long. You can see I bored the ports in the MC to SEE the ports in the sleeve. I'm wanting bleeding this to be a non event. So my question is; why is the primary port in the sleeve so small? Don't recall seeing an MC with a primary port that small. MC from a Yamaha for comparison. I so want to bore that port out to a more typical size, then dress/clean up the edge in the bore. But thought I'd solicit some opinions here first

Who's kit is it? I have a similar post about 13mm MC your nylon piston looks similar to west coast rebuilder. Got a kit from Madass everything worked. Madass gives you the correct drill bits for MC holes. Look for me to repost with complete pics of all pistons and sleeves. There are different lengths

I don’t know why - not schooled enough in hydraulics ( even had a course in college) - but I had mine sleeved on an exchange basis by Old Brits some time ago and I don’t believe they changed port size but I just got bike back on the road this summer and I can tell you that - A . -bleeding a chore but no worse than before
B . - brake works beautifully now

Sleeve is the #C0240 kit from Clubman racing, sourced the drill bit and tap on my own.

FWIW, it looks like there is a groove in the outside of the sleeve. My guess is that as long as the groove lines up with the hole in the master cylinder the holes in the sleeve and MC do not need to be exactly in line with each other.

Sleeving a brake cylinder is like recapping tires...

I say that based on TWO failures of sleeved Norton Mastercyls by a known, reputable re-sleever (used by a well-known/well-respected/well-liked Norton parts supplier). One occurred while sitting in the garage - brakes were fine on a ride; a week later, no brake. Sent MC to be repaired. The 2nd occurred between two stop lights ; worked perfectly stopping at the first light - no (front) brake at the second one a mile later. That was pretty exciting and ended sleeved MCs for me. ;)

CNY Brembo MC on bike since

No idea what actually happened internally - brakes went from working fine /firm lever to lever going all the way to bar.

The first failure - in the garage with a couple of weeks between riding it last and discovering no brake (lever to bar) didn't really bother me other than with the annoyance of removing/shipping it for repair/replacement. The second failure - was a bit more "attention getting." Nothing quite like pulling the brake lever to stop and having it just hit the bar!

How do you like the cNw one.... Are you using it with a factory caliper and rotor?
Yes. Only change other than CNW/Brembo MC is an SS brake line. Brakes act/feel like modern brakes. I absolutely recommend it, especially now that CNW has an adapter plate that allows using the OEM Lucas switchgear. That was my only "complaint" about the Brembo when I purchased it back in '10. At the time you had to use different switch gear but CNW started producing an adapter plate a few years ago and I purchased it/re-installed the OEM switchgear.

Did a DIY master cylinder sleeve years back but after a few years had to hone the sleeve as it was sticking and holding the brake. No problems since and it scared the c..p out of me how well it grabbed. Believe it was the rgm kit. Just drilled out, tapped the thread etc. Fitted with no other drilling problems. Lockheed caliper all standard, apart from fitted to a dommie.

Mine was done by Clubman Racing. I use a 12" disc and an AP clone. No problems with the whole setup and pleased with the stopping. It is a bit of a challenge to bleed but it's been installed for years now. I wonder if anyone else has had a failure like Mexico Mike or ?
