O.K., enough of that. I would start by soaking the whole kit n' kaboodle in WD 40 ,inside and out for at least a week. Maybe a year actually and you can use that time to start ordering in all those shiny new parts... mmmm ...shiny. Document the process too.

Great advice not to move nothing d/t high change of about fusing rust that might be more saveable. Don't waste time and pollute enviornment with dang wimpy wd40, which I will never again capitolize, as it evoporates fast and has nil rust protection, seen it rust over night floating on top of condensation layer. Only thing its good for is cleaning electrical terminals and oily stuff. Get serious and think ATF or diesel. In olden days they'd dunk a whole bike in a diesel barrel for months before attacking. Best way if not in a hurry is a barrel of molasses and water with stuff opened to let flow in everywhere for a season or more. ONLY rust will be removed, nothing else metal or other wise, but do take the seal and wires cables off.
There are solvent methods, acid alkaline treatment methods, electrolytic/galvanic methods and chelation method. Moles-asses weak organic acids grab on to metal oxide molecules so is the chelation process.

Welcome aboard Marc!

This bike is just crying for a Joe Hunt magneto off the points mount. While you're at it how about a weber side draft carb on that side too. You'd need a custom manifold and you may have to mount the seat a few inches to the left for counter balance but hey, it'd be the 1st one on the block for sure.

All fun aside, I look forward to seeing more shots as your build progresses.

Nothing like a tattered old bike to capture the imagination, like a blank canvas
waiting to become the expression of it's owner.

Yes it does turn over, I've been told by the previous owner that oil was dropped into
the cylinders on a regular basis. Regardless it will be taken completely apart and
thoroughly inspected.

Dismantling has yet to commence as there are a couple of projetcs ahead of this one.
Rest assured, progress with be completely docummented and lots of pics along the way!

Here's a pic of the custom license plate bracket...
