Received a engine/ gearbox seal kit and was disappointed that it didn’t include o-rings or seals for the kickstart or shifter shafts.

Simple o-rings came out. I’m sure I can find something that will work, but this thing was leaking like crazy from both.

Suggestions?

There are lipped seals out there that can be substituted for the o-rings that perform much better and last longer. Check the Tech section or someone smarter than me (I know, a wide swath) can provide part numbers.

You might want to check the sealing surfaces of the shafts and polish off any imperfections for a good seal.

Go for the X ring alternatives, double the sealing.

Parts 5 and 40

You can work out the generic numbers by measurement.

and then going for the X ring

I used those AN X rings but still put a suitable sized O-ring on the end of the shaft and between whatever is on the end of it whenever I can no matter the bike.

Where did it come from and why not the AN set which includes everything including x-rings for those shafts.

Quick question…

Is any machining required for the x-rings or are these a direct swap in for the o-rings?

As long as you cross ref to the original O ring number then no machining is needed, go up in thickness and machining is required in both depth and width of slot.

I've tried the X rings and I was disappointed - they don't really last or work much better.

If you want a definite improvment that will last do the following:

Tranny kick shaft – use wooden shaft to force in a oversize 1/8x1-1/8 ID viton Oring.

Use oversize 3/32 x 11/16 ID viton O ring on the shift lever – force into place with a wooden shaft.

Oil tight and good for many years of service. No machining required (just a little patience working in the oversize Orings that fit tighter).

Shop at "the oring store" online.
