Kick Starting a Norton with a new knee?

I have steadfastly ignored the kicking issue saying when I cannot kick it into life Im standing down from biking.
Uh, hmmm. Maybe worth looking at Matt's offering...:-(

No problem with starting the Norton, it always starts easily first or second kick and little effort. Starting my Goldstar is a different matter, and I consider an E-start for that bike. ( or an inflatable hill ).

Sounds like a bunch of geriatrics with deteriorating bodies!

Unfortunately we all get to this stage at some time, I can only say that with 173 cm height the 750 Kickstart on my 850 lets me have a good swing
with the left leg even with the bike on the side stand. I am not keen on these longer arms and I am not sure how the kinked 850 arm is.
What I do know is the T140V on the centre stand is too high and I have to free the clutch and lower the arm in order to get a swing and remain stable on the right leg.

Yes buy the Alton if you intend to keep the airbox.
Cracked bone below knee on a wet morning , slipped off of wet kicker rubber and kicked pavement instead.
2 years later the biggie. Shattered ankle on a kickback. Way too cold morning on a flooded engine. 3 years no driving and sold the 72 . MK 111 now and about to purchase Matt's starter upgrade kit as soon as it hits market.
Up to you though.

Bloody ‘ell.. OUCH...

I will have to talk to Matt, maybe we could offer a disability price on the CNW starter if you can
prove knee or hip surgery . LOL

Special thanks to CNW and their suppliers. I had an accident last July with my drag car and hit the concrete wall at 150mph. Broke both legs (lower tibia plateau fractures) and left kneecap. In wheelchair for 12 weeks and lots of physio. All is good now and pretty well back to normal. I put Matt’s estart on my combat in February and have put 1100 miles on bike since the first of April. Without the estart my Norton riding days would be over. 65 years old and all my original parts. I don’t think I would risk kick starting after any major surgery.

We need an airport walk thru metal detector. Set off the alarm with implanted metal joint parts and receive 10% off CNW starter.
I just circumnavigated the entire World involuntarily. The airports metal detector security people said all that stainless in your leg will not set off the alarm. It's set up for heavy metals that are iron based steels,eg. weapons. That and then the air Spinner which detects latent explosives and chemicals fumes. But we need the 10 % off CNW parts for being safe ,for sure. Enjoy.

I'm quite sure his info is wrong.
My wife has a stainless steel hip. That sets off every airport metal detector we've tried so far.
I always have to wait for that to get sorted:)
She always tells the airport security people that the alarm will go off, but they have her go thru anyway.

Toronto. Frankfurt. New Delhi. Return - New Delhi. Japan. Vancouver. Toronto. 2020. Escaping Corona as ordered back home prematurely by P.M.. Had to make friends with Delhi Police Captain to escape Lock down with grateful help from Cdn Embassy. Never tripped a metal detector at 6 airports. 3 stainless ankle plates and 12 screws. Rented 6 bikes on the trip . Enjoy.

Maybe your plates are a different type of SS.

This has been our experience.
We've set off alarms in many major airports, but Security has always been forewarned.

The big concern with kickstarting on an artificial knee is that plan B isn't good.
If the joint is damaged , say from kickback, surgeons have much less to work with on reconstruction than on the initial surgery. So outcomes generally aren't great second time around.

Apparently it's best to let security personnel know verbally before entering the machine. They have a sensitivity scale of between 1 and 15 , 1 being low level. 5 seems to be the average setting although the U.S.A. sets it higher (7) and if heightened security areas are to be entered that number can climb.

Took the Royal Enfield Interceptor S2 out for a ride today. Took a lot of kicks. probably all the stabile I put in it. Leg hurt, and the old knee hurt , but got it done. Cant see it get any better with a new plastic knee. So I will probably sell the Interceptor .

She should carry and show the security people an X ray of her hip, so if they don't have English as a first language, you know they are either making fun of you or just testing their alarm system :)

My doc said I should be able to do anything I did before, including kickstarting the old girl. It has been 5 1/2 months since I got the right knee. I was able to start my bike ok last week. 3 kicks and the knee still felt good. The left knee (done 4 months ago) was still a little wonky when rising up on the pegs to come down on the kickstarter.
I won't get the e-start for it. When I can't kick it anymore I'll buy a lightweight bike with e-start.
By the way, the knees are not made of plastic. It's mostly titanium and other exotic metals.
