I got the new tires on it, changed the oil and filter and today was the day. I got it cranked up, back out of the garage and promptly killed it by banging it into gear with a stuck clutch. No problem. I freeed up the clutch, gave it a kick and nothing. In fact there was a lot of kicking and nothing. I pulled the plugs, checked for fire and it was very hard to see. I checked for wet plugs and they were dry. I finally got it to light again and I did a number of turns up and down the street. It died again and had the same starting issue. Debby said that it had a problem with relight after it had gotten hot. It had a set of Autolite AP64 and I tried a set of NGK BP7ES that I had. It seems to run alright but I will have to do some experimenting. I am pretty sure this is a "new bike to me" phenomenon and I will get it's starting drill down in time.

The other issue is it's not comfortable. The seating position is rather savage and the one rear view mirror is just for show. It's not really my bike yet and I am going to need to adjust it to fit my frame.

Dunno if it’s just the angle of the photo, but the seat looks thick? If so, that’ll raise you up, which when coupled with those low bars isn’t gonna feel right.

IMO the stock footrests are too far forward for low bars anyway.

But the stock footrests do work well with bars that sit you more upright.

I had a gun fighter seat on my 750. It sat you in the bike. To me, stock Norton seats made me look down at the front wheel. You are correct, these bars make it worse. I wear a full face helmet and I had to push it back on my head to see forward. I would love to have some rear sets, a lower seat and maybe some bar end mirrors. Rear sets are kind of pricey.

So I let the bike sit and get stone cold. I had replaced the original Autolite AP64 with a set of NGK BP7ES. I cranked it up and the left side poops and pops when the throttle is held steady at around 1200rpm. Strange. I am going to start with a fresh set of plugs and give the pilot jet a good going over (again.)

That silver looks REALLY good. I always thought mine needs to be silver, then I would use
that "canvas" for some tasteful, minimal black pin striping.
You will get it sorted, great pic !

I smell what your stepping in. That kind of thing drives me nuts. Short drive though, so I get over it quick. Lean or blocked pilot would be my guess. But one must test and not guess. It's the law. ;)

A slight air leak at the intake manifold between the carbonators and intake manifolds can do stuff like that as well. Another guess. I'll never learn.

Every new-to-me bike gives up its secrets slowly. I replaced the plugs again this morning with known good items and it started to fire right on the left side. I used the choke when restarting and that worked well. It banged right off. I still want to strip the carburetors and clean the pilot jets. After the hell I had with my T100's single Monobloc it stands to reasion that care must be taken to ensure that the pilot jet is clear and clean.

As to the color, yes, the silver is really nice. The bad thing is there are big Bondo bubbles in the tank with blisters showing, It looks good from 10 feet but up close it's kind of bad.

Yes, a handlbar change is on the list of changes I intend to make.

What type of Ignition was Debby running on it? It is a beauty, that's for sure!
Pazon Electronic Ignition. I thought it might be something wrong with the ignition system but usually when they fail they just die. I just think it is a bad plug and a tuning issue at this point.

I like the silver with tasteful black pin striping and maybe a touch of red pin striping. It has a lot of polished surfaces and the silver goes really well with them.

Indeed, some red ! the silver does compliment it nicely overall.
Enjoy !

Handlebars are such a personal item.
I agree about the Euro or Daytona Superbike bars working best with rearsets.
I've never really liked the Western bars as I thought they were too tall and wide.
A nice compromise for me is the Daytona 'Touring' bar.
A little taller and more sweep than the Euro/Superbike bar.
Your results may very.
I'm 6'1" btw, or at least I used to be.........................

I think I am going to order a Dayton Touring Bar. That seems like a good fit. I too am 6'-1" or i used to be. I also think the Norton is designed to be ridden very close to the tank as if you had a passenger.

Um, you mean where the prostate masher tunnel in the seat pan is?
No. HELL no.

When you clean the pilot jets, do it from both ends (I appreciate you probably know this). I have some gas axe cleaning wires, I found one thin enough to bend but strong enough to prod and went through the hole into the pilot circuit where the fuel is drawn up from the the float bowl. Cleared the problem I had that just going through the air screw aperture would not fix. Other stuff, compressed air, carb cleaner and mind your eyes.

I have a renewed respect for the pilot jet cleaning on a Amal Concentric after the hell I went through on an Amal Monobloc. And you can actually see the jet and the passage on a Monobloc and it took me three tries to get the pilot circuit clean and functioning. Just a note on Monoblock pilot jets, make sure that the taper seats.
