Here's one of Dreer's single horn locations. Ms Peel had one on each side. Too much mass for next Peel so air station will blow handle bars as train and deer whistle startles.

The Nautilus looks amazingly like the Wolo Bad boy I got for $30. These things draw 10 Amps, so you need to use the relay and maybe don't use it if your battery is low, you are idling and you have the Boyer? I haven't installed mine yet, not too many socker moms out here in the boonies, luckily. Only time I used my horn so far is for a young bear, and he was heading for a tree anyhow.

Well before I ordered a new one I decided to give the old one another shot. Shot some liquid wrench into it, turned the screw in and out a few times and it let out a sqwuak. Think I will clean it up and paint it and put it in the stock location.
If it dies I'll put a replacement in a more accessible spot.

Hehe yes should sound like a baby bee under a bucket - unless its mounted pretty darn solid then a Mr. Bee under a bonnet 'loud'. Its best to mount the heavy factory horn low and center for its bias in center of gravity. There is a secondary primary dilemma, how tight to mount it, too tight distorts/stifles the Bee yet too loose lets it come loose and also stifles the bleat. Blue grade loctite was made for this but a bit more of a bugger to remove again. Putting relay in also bumps up the Blair note.

Center stand and horn together are worth almost 2 hp in acceleration mass and more in fling inertia.

HI All.

Since we're on the subject; Is an old ('69) horn polarity sensitive? Mine worked on the bench but hooked into the harness she won't toot. Harness is new .

Help always appreciated,

TK

I must have been asleep when they went over this in physics class. If you have two horns that are each medium loud, will you end up with a loud duet? The horns with compressors are a mounting problem but mounting a PIAA slim line on each side behind the Z-plates would be easier. It would be worth it if they were loud enough.

I doubt it. I didn't pay any attention hooking mine back up, nothing was marked, but I didn't try both ways. Can't imaging it makes any difference, the connectors seem isolated from ground. It does pull some current, you may want to check your connectors and switch.

It makes no difference, both terminals are insulated.

Horn don't toot unless mounted pretty solid so if just testing loose with power leads maybe that all it is as proved it worked on bench. Also possible to attach too tight that also stifles its weak bleats.

The Lucas horn is one of the things that doesn't work well, even when new. Replace it with a good aftermarket item and you'll be a lot happier. There are aftermarket horns that can be mounted in the stock location and look very similar to a Lucas horn and are at least twice as loud.

Yep sir, the Commando is a real man's project, to endure and nurse the factory short comings or the guilt of jumping ship cheating with non Norton items. It got to be too much for me, a split brain nut case, with Ms Peel, to point she's hardly anything Norton left, so had to buy Trixie to accept the Norton hand me downs and ease my guilt while testing me harder to keep one functional stock. Realize a shout may work as good or better from under a helmet than a bleat under the bike.

I tried my 40 year old horn on the bench with a battery and it worked. Put it on the triangular bracket under the battery tray as tight as I could with that self tapping screw and it still works. Not real loud, but hearable. A blip on the throttle from idle may be about as good.

Ugh, DogT, just flashed me back to event that argree's with A SNORT working better than the weak Bleats. What I thought was a black cow blocking path on one lane bridge w/o side didn't shuffle out the way with a bleat, but took it as a challenge > spun around pawing ground with steam jets out nosrtals as lowering Bull Horns aimed right at me about to charge us right over the edge 2 stories down. I freaked to instantly BLATTTT throttle which so startled the bull he stiffened up in a recoil that backed him up a step > I dropped clutch on solid bridge surface to shoot past him before regaining his traction to launch. Yhe fella I got my 1st Combat form carried 12 ga shot gun in cab, I asked him why, he said the bulls needed a bird shot blast or TWO to get them to change mind about charging his truck in pastures... Peashooters are a good name for the double barreled Commando.
