Horn location

Cannot remember ever using the horn. By the time I figure out where the button is and then use it, the event is over and only
a distant memory as you lie in the hospital bed.
...a blast on the throttle with the peashooters is my usual move in town and out on the road it is the brakes!

You're doing it wrong.
Used in conjunction with all other defensive driving techniques, the audible warning device provides a valuable tool in the collision avoidance process.

I can only remember using the horn once, when a car pulled out from a side road across my path. I felt a complete idiot when I realised I'd left my indicator on, so they thought I was turning off before I reached them.

Generally best to assume you're on your own, as their music is turned up to 11

....and they are also many times distracted, skilless, impaired, angry, indifferent to roadway rules.

Just like scanning your mirrors, add the "turn signal off check" for a couple of extra laps around the scan track.

Re. horn button, I wired the unused (starter?) switch in the RH switch cluster (white/red wire) to the existing horn switch on the LH switch cluster (black/purple wire), so two options to use the thing.

So you see my comments were not completely out of line. Driving with your beam on daytime helps some but unless you have
nicked the siren off the Queen Mary even the Police have learned few actually react to same for reasons just stated.
Even with warning beepers I forget to cancel my indications. Never forgot to do that whilst using hand signals!

Order,
I use hand signals all the time and I also put a MotoGadget M-stop self canceling flasher. It has worked well now for quite some time. It is very small and fits into the headlight shell nicely.

Turn signals/indicators together with hand signals in some cases...
day light
riding with a group, the guerilla arm can be seen further back in the pack, prepatory benefits
a driver identified as inattentive/distracted/tailgating driver behind, begin hand signals before even slowing at all
situational awareness
use all the tools

Mike - I bought one of those.
Then found the Kisan Signal Minder
MUCH better as it accepts an input from the brake light and pauses the countdown while the brake is on. Great for traffic lights!
Cheers

Edit: The Kisan Tail Blazer is also great - it starts very rapid flashing of the brake light before slowing to full-ON
Anything that gets you noticed is good for me!

I ran these on my cruiser when I was commuting into Boston.

I made the choice after watching the blatant inattentive drivers.
(Reading a hard cover book propped on the steering wheel is one I saw that shocked me)

Rob,
Do the Kisan units work with positive earth?
Thanks,
Mike

I am not brave enough to ride a motorcycle on public roads. When I was a kid, many drivers were drunk. These days they have drugs and mobile phones. And unless you are a Hells Angel, they do not see you when you are on a motorcycle.

That's fairly "glass 3/4 empty" Al. It's not that bad.
