Typical moment here, just about to fit my new iso head steady and I cant find the allen headed bolts for the cyl head. Can anyone tell me the thread ie unf? Ive been routing through my box of spares and no bolt will thread in past one turn by hand.
Any info will be great..

Jim.

Hey L.A.B. do you by chance know what the threads are for the bolts at the top of the headsteady that bolt it to the top tube ? I have a CNW headsteady & I can tell that one side is a little bit stripped. I'm thinking of cleaning up the threads & running a thru bolt with a lock nut on it instead of two short bolts but I need to know what bolt to buy. Thanks.

The bolts are 5/16- 24.
If the threads in the frame are damaged you can drill them out and use a single longer bolt [use a grade 8] and nut or you can install helicoils and use the high tensile bolts that come in the kit. I have a single long bolt in mine. Jim

Thanks Jim. I like the single thru bolt/nut idea. Seems simpler / safer. I'll get a grade 8 & a nylock bolt.

Bolt is only in compression/tension loads not shear or twisting loads so I got away scott free with one side bolt run in till about jammed and a back up lock nut. These holes may not line up well enough to run a bolt all the way though as may jam in opposite threads halfway so check that before committing to plan.

One thing Matt reminded me of. It may be a good idea to see that the un-threaded area of the bolt is long enough to pass through both sides of the bracket to positively locate it. That would mean buying a bolt that was too long and then cutting off the extra threads so it doesn't foul the tank. Jim
