The Harley was brilliant in every way. The fairing iced up and icicles were hitting the top of the helmet and flying over me, was pretty crazy. I have ridden like 20 miles or so like this before, but it went on for hundreds of miles. I had good weather gear and was prepared, except for my feet were freezing literally. I might be rethinking electric warm weather gear next time... yes I am sure there will be a next time. It was exhausting

i am a Brit too, so I know what you are saying as that’s where I started riding. These harleys are very comfortable on long hauls. I have the riders back rest and highway pegs. It helps. It’s not a problem to do 600 miles a day with normal weather.

Slightly off topic, the Trans-Canada highway is 7821km. If you stuck to the inside tangent of the road, you could save one tank of gas(so I was told)
 
Re your freezing feet, buy thick leather boots one size too big wear wool socks , the air pockets should keep yourfeet warm unless temperature falls below freezing
 
Glad it was safe, fun, trouble free. I've ridden some distance and cold myself when both Wing and I were younger..... That's where a scooter is proven trash or treasure.

That looks like it was an excellent trip, and some adventure mixed it with it. Glad you got back safe. I have driven in some nasty stuff but that sleet/snow storm has me beat hands down. I think the closest I have come to that was riding down from the top of Pike’s Peak in a blizzard, when the whole top was still a dirt road. Heading for Maine from New Jersey in a couple of weeks, hope I don’t run into anything like that. LOL
Just got my first piece of heated gear, Gerbring heated jacket liner, my advice is get some heated stuff. It‘s a whole different world.

Hi Pete, yeah it was a fun trip and great to visit different places and good friends. I am back to normal now at work. That weather was thrown in to make sure I remember the trip. Weather is getting better in Colorado, but now hail season. Time for short blasts on the commando. Pikes Peak and blizzard should not be allowed in the same sentence, cheers

I find it difficult doing these trip because of work too. I am hooked up on my Harley. My customers cant tell I am doing 90 down the freeway when they call me. You got to get out for sanity!
 
Its always good to get away from the norm and a good road trip is the only way to get that fix and visiting old mates that have moved away, I have been retired for over 7 years and still haven't done my trip around AUSSIE land yet, but hopefully it will happen next year, things just keep getting in the way lol, I have my swag and saddle bags at the ready.

Are you Bluetooth enabled? I have a Garmin GPS that Bluetooth pairs with the phone in my pocket and the headset in my Arai helmet. I pull over, however, to answer an incoming call.

Yes, on my Harley Limited it has the info system that I connect to for phone, gps, music etc. I also have my iPhone up on the bars to monitor email. I have mic and headset built into my Shorai helmet.

Wow… impressive stuff Jerry… a long way away from the Peter Fonda symbolic throwing away of the wristwatch in Easy Rider though innit ?!?
 
My Garmin Zumo 550 is smart enough to know that it's in the motorcycle handlebar mount (I also have a suction cup mount for the car) and it shuts off audio prompts unless you have a wired headset (ear buds) or Bluetooth receiver. Without audio the GPS needs to be watched and the arrows can be confusing. Earbuds are a real PITA. I opted to get an installed headset from these guys:

Though it seems they don't offer the Arai any more.

Its the only way I can do these long haul trips and still work. I have my laptop in it as well just in case. As I get older though these long 2000 mile trips are less exciting...
