Google Ads on Access Norton

I’m logged in right now and there are two ads in the classic forum in the middle of posts. I don’t mind ads as they pay the bills, but this is new and unusual.

I was getting those a few months back as well as many others here and Jerry worked some PFM making them go away. As of now I've had no problems since.

This is really weird as when I log out I only see an ad at top and bottom, like its supposed to be. I will try and figure out what happened and fix it. I will let you know...

When I come on here I am logged on automaticly and I see no ads at all and I am not a VIP member, on my Triumph Rat forum there are ads inbetween some posts and on the right side of the screen, but they don't worry me if it helps with the forums but there are a lot more members world wide on the Triumph Rat, a lot more members on at the same time and a lot more sub threads as well model threads.
The Triumph Rat forum has just gone through a complete upgrade and changes and the ads are a lot more now.

Some of the additional ads will be as a result of the version of windows that some are running - or google software on phones and tablets. The newer versions allow you to prevent tracking software (cookies) from popping adverts of items you have searched on other websites.
For example, I have purchased a couple of items from sportsbikeshop recently and when I log into my hotmail account I get side banners and top and bottom banners advertising similar items from Amazon, eBay, etc..
Check your settings (or get your kids to do it)

Hello,

I have checked the ad settings. If you are not a VIP the ads should be at the top or bottom of the forums only. It seems like nothing has changed. Please send me a screen shot if you see anything different,

thanks
Jerry
Here you go Jerry..

I also get a full page add when I click on some threads, and need to close it before proceeding.

Cheers,

cliffa

I just started getting the ads - about every 5th post. thought i'd reset everything - went to log out and log back in, but forgot my PW. reset PW, logged out, logged in, and NO ADS. don't understand it, but FWIW....

Hello,

I think I fixed the ads in middle of posts for non VIPs. Please confirm.
I wish I could turn them off all together. I need to do all I can to get money for the server.

Let me know if you still see ads in middle of posts please,

Jerry

must have been a timing thing with Jerry. thanks Jerry, all's well.

I’ve just logged in from Hong Kong and the ads are in between every few comments. It wasn’t like this yesterday.

"The last time I attended a Norton meeting the bulk of the dialog was centered on arthritis, joint replacement, cardiac catheterization and other maladies associated with age."

Yep, that seems to be the demographic of "motorcycle owners," nowadays. ;)

I was clogging up last night, but good this morning. Thanks Jerry.

Who is getting old? My young mind is only trapped in aging transportation... My Norton matches as well looking old and behaving young.

Well, I got a good chuckle and a spot on for RoadScholar. I never see ads here, maybe I do not go to the proper location. If you want to see ads read The Daily Mail online Brit news. It is like bombs going off left ,right, and right in the middle of what you are trying to read. I tune out all side crap but have to deal with the garbage blocking stuff. Advertising in general has gone nuts.Companies are so desperate to mine the internet and cell phone market that very soon we will all abandon it. I would also agree that people are just not interested in our era and our bikes. So, just enjoy what you have while you have it and the gumption to ride.
I recently advertised my Triumph T120RT and got nary a soul interested. C'est la vie

Update. I just downloaded ad blocker and donated 15. Wow. Does it ever clean up the Daily Mail. Thank you for the tip.

I am not concerned by ads but riddle me this....

For some time now I have noticed post numbers dropping and even when there are five in day it seems less that 50% of them relate to Norton Commando's (real ones)
If it was not for all the political ramblings some days there would be next to no activity.
Is Access Norton all lurkers or folk who have nothing to add or say these days.
I see five new posts in the side bar today and one is Commando related.

I had not been to BritBike.com for some time and when I signed in a virtual tumble weed went by.
If it was not for one person posting Craigslist links there it would be near deserted.
Even ADV Rider seems down on new posts these days.
Is it the faceless FaceBook at work, the enemy of being social.

No doubt this thread will be moved to some obscure forum to fade away with the others but I can not be the only one to have noticed.

Edit.
Oh dear, this post has now bumped the battery thread so there is not one Commando post to be seen on the main page.

I have been a member for a bit over a year and I guess I am a 'lurker'. I consciously have tried not to post unless necessary. I try to use the search function to see if my problem has been addressed previously on this forum. Most time I find something, but I usually have to sift thru a lot (maybe I am not skilled at searching) and on older threads the images are usually not available to me. I find it somewhat inefficient, so maybe I should just post anew. That would help raise the amount of traffic.
I must say that when I have posted a question or about an issue I was having, I have received pretty much exactly the info I needed in the responses to my posts.
I have a 71 Roaster that I ride and just finishing a 72 Interstate restore and ready to start a 3rd project, so I have no end to Commando quandaries and mysteries in sight that I will need help with.

I'd like to take this opportunity to expand a bit on your comments. The old threads can have a lot of good information but it is always disappointing when the photos are not functional. Don't be afraid to post a new reply to an old thread and ask for recent updates and photos. If you start a new thread you can always post a link to older threads. But mostly what I want to comment on is that there is no substitute for good photos in a thread. Back in the Photobucket days there were lots of photos. It was easy. But then we all got screwed over because the good times didn't last. Now it seems that people do not take the effort to post as many photos as they once did. I think that the forum will only be as good as the energy we put into it.

Yes I know, I machined a 4140 heavy shim for the later bike and posted it to you with a couple of Moto Guzzi pinion shims.

I guess my point is, this site can be a community, simply a resource or perhaps a combination of both, that is up to the individual.

Oddly enough, (some of the posts are actually DR related) one of the most laid back threads on the Internet is the DR650 thread/Thumpers forum on ADV Rider.
11028 pages.
220559 posts.
30076699 views.

I see views have skyrocketed on this thread so hope more people will post.

Yes, that is a perfect example of what I was referring to. Than you again for all the help you gave me and let me know if I can return the favor.
