Front disc hubs painted or polished

I have a few front disc hubs, some are polished and some painted silver, what was the finish for the hub in 72?
and the rear? were they ever painted?

The front were polished, but not to a high gloss, & the rear hubs were in their native cast finish. No paint on either.
