Heh, safe for the buyer…

I really feel sorry for you.

I live in Sweden and i can tell you, there is no town with the name Jastimland.
The other adress is also fake, we dont have that kind.
That sir name appears a bit suspect (joke)to me even if we do have a lot of immigrants nowadays.

Please accept my condolences. There is one very big mistake which I constantly repeat - I don't keep enough notes and records. I just swan along forgetting about the necessities, and one day I will probably also get caught out, and pay.

Hi Jerry,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I am not sure how USPS dispatches parcels, but in case they did send to Sweden (there is a good chance they did), you should fire off an email to the Swedish Postal Sorting Facility located at Arlanda Airport outside of Stockholm (in swedish: Postens utrikesterminal för sortering, EMS Arlanda Flygplats). Their address is:

utrikesbrev.arlanda@posten.se

You may be lucky and intercept some of the parcels as re-routing tends to be slow.
Good luck!

Regards,

Knut

I feel your pain and offer your my sympathies.

These types of attacks happen to me about 2-3 times a year. I attempt to avoid tem by Googling the address. The last attack occurred about 3 weeks ago the creep used an address that mapped to Thialand, but had the Netherlands listed as the country. When I Googled the address I found the forwarding connection, which until you mentioned it didn't make any sense to me. The miscreants phone number Googled to Bangladesh. Here is a copy of the e-mail traffic between the thief and me:

Thank you for your cooperation, of course my country is NL for Netherlands.

I used the following Google search string: "asemrowo, benowos 60182 and the Netherlands" based on the address he provided and got some very conflicting results. I have a Skype phone that costs me very little to make global calls. I will not ship merchandise to any foreign country where I cannot verify that the billing and shipping address are the same and are valid and that they jib with the phone number provided, If I get that far and still feel uncomfortable I call Visa/MasterCard/Discover HQ and run the card number.

The scams that are run on me from domestic scum are somewhat easier to spot and avoid. The last one was a jerk that wanted to buy 10 Mikuni kits for R75 /5 BMWs, the phone number had been shut off, the shipping and billing address were different and the recipient (scum bag) and the person paying the bill were different. In that case I was able to make contact with the credit card holder who had no knowledge of the thief.

I do not look forward to the day someone puts one over on me. I blame the credit card companies for making it relatively easy to perpetrate this type of fraud; Target is making big news for the same reason now, if those guys take aim at me I'm a gonner...If I ever catch one I will eviscerate them very slowly.
Bill.

Hi Bill,

The key is to check the IP address they sign up from matches the actual billing & shipping address. I knew this, but did not do my normal checks as the person actually knows about commando's. My mistake. I thought I had AVS in place with PayPal too. I am now switching to another merchant that includes the AVS free of charge (PP payflow are extra).

Thanks for posting that. I might post my correspondence later-- Cheers- Merry Christmas

We are all sick at honest people getting taken. Maybe the air shipper can hang up the order at next landing and if its transfered and to who. Ugh. Most of us have taken lasting hits trying to believe everyone is like us.

First, I'd like to say that I'm really sorry this happened to you.

I can't offer my advice but I'll just offer some comments.

I got here through advrider. Someone posted this thread there.

As someone how was raised in Sweden, has lived in four countries and speaks
four languages fluently, it's obvious to me that the address is not Swedish.

Furthermore, the US Mail are the biggest thieves there are so don't get your hopes up
about getting paid.

That being said, you shouldn't be expected to know the address was fake. I just happen to be
pretty good at these things. On the other hand, I couldn't fix a bike to save my life :)

It's crap that this happens and unfortunately, they prey on people not knowing
if the address seems legit and so on. I would say that in the future, you could
simply look this address up on mapquest or google maps or as you yourself said,
do a bit of checking before you send the stuff out.

The only thing I can personally do at this point is to offer my help for future sales.

IF you're unsure of anything like a foreign address, feel free to contact me and I'll see if I can help.

You can email me at info AT extuff DOT biz or pm me here (assuming the notification works fine).

Again, really sorry this happened to you :(

George

Shiiiiiit. The filthy cockroaches of the world ruin the fun.. AGAIN. Sorry you got robbed. Begs the question, what DO the credit card companies do to earn their fees?? (From the merchant)

UGH!!! I am sorry that you've been scammed.

We learned early on to be suspicious of 'repeat' purchases from abroad. The credit card companies do absolutely nothing for the protection of the merchant. What we learned after getting screwed on several foreign chargebacks is this:

AVS (Address verification system) is only for the US and Canada. Foreign banks do not provide AVS.
The POS credit card system does not even check to see if the name of the purchaser matches the name of the card holder . You can put any old name in there and the transaction will fly right through. Pretty remarkable, isn't it?
AVS matches only the address number and zip code. Not the street name, city, state, province or country.

The entire credit card system for merchants is a rip-off joke. The card processors do nothing for their 2.5 to 6% that they skim off the top, from the merchant, on every transaction.

If there's a transaction that we are at all suspicious of, we email the purchaser requesting an emailed copy of their government issued photo ID, and the phone and email of an English speaking contact at their bank. If they do not respond within three days, we cancel and refund the transaction and block their IP address, or the entire IP address range for their ISP. Suffice to say that if they do not respond in a timely fashion, the transaction is fraudulent.

Merchant beware :!:

I know. I checked their IP afterwards and saw they were ordering from Romania. I became complacent as I knew to do this and should have checked the order. I have blocked the whole of Romania on my server (I already had Indonesia blocked!)

Have a good one

I sympathize - I lost money on ebay/Paypal on a similar international transaction. I shipped a guitar. A week or two later I received a message from Paypal/ebay stating that the buyer claimed he never received the instrument. I supplied the tracking info from Fedex which showed it had been delivered. Buyer then claimed he had received the box but it was empty - no guitar in it. Fedex supported me - that the box was weighed/shipped/tracked/delivered. Regardless, Paypal refunded the buyer's money (from my account) despite the tracking/Fedex info. They totally supported the buyers claim that he had received an empty box. So he ended up with the guitar AND his (my) money.

I no longer have any faith whatsoever in ebay/paypal...

By the way, I think I may have come across as an a$$ with my post and yes, I know that some of these foreign addresses
aren't obvious to everyone but I came here with the best intentions and again, my offer stands to anyone.
If you have foreign problems like these and feel like asking me, just hit me up. If I know the answer or if I can figure it out,
I gladly will. I've gotten lots of help in different forums myself and firmly believe in paying back.

By the way, the advice about that forum/group seems like a winner :)

Good luck

George

Sorry to hear of this and hope you get something back at least.

On Romania. I'm typing this from home in New Zealand but most of the year I work in Romania.

From 1 Jan they become a full member of the European Union which may bring some changes but unfortunately they retain a very high level of fraud and corruption coming out of the old Soviet times. Basically extremely highly trained mathematicians and engineers with very low salaries and under employment. "The devil makes work for idle hands !!!"

The good guys emigrate to get the good salaries. And it is very sad to listen to respectable hard working parents talking about sending their kids away to study and work so they can live normal lives. I had a couple of engineers who worked for me and you could never find better hard working, imaginative, solution focused guys!

Its a great country badly served by corrupt politicians, officials and "business men" The ones in the black 4WDs.

Hello all,

Well a not so good update on this situation. I use PayPal as my merchant gateway and they say that they tried their best to fight for me on these transactions, but they say the credit card gods decided not to give me back my money. So they have deducted thousands from my PayPal account and really pissed me off. So I am out the products and the money. I am not able to do anything else. If anyone needs Amal parts, T-shirts or anything else I can help and also any non VIP members thinking about supporting the forum by signing up, now is a good time. I certainly learned my lesson. Watch out for these scammers. I will be ditching PayPal in the near future as I don't think they made much of an effort. I am also going to dedicated a small website about this to warn others.

Jerry,

Just FYI - tax season is just around the corner. It is a small consolation but don't forget to investigate this a write off.
