Dirty laundry it is then!

Wow, you must have spent considerable time smoothing the surface of those yokes Auld.
The cast finish on mine are as rough as a cob. Perhaps the early yokes were smoother to begin with.

I am pretty sure these came out the factory chromed as this bike was registered June 69, but my 71 has the same shape but is painted(it is ex police I think)but combat yokes are totally different shape and grey coated. I think I will get them chromed as it just looks so much better, but my bike is in bits anyway so it's not much trouble to get it done.

It's good stuff. Made by Durex only for export, I got mine from an English bloke who got it as a present from his wife, but he spent most of his time with Mates.

Shit you guys are funny. Not a patch on the guys wearing full Pipe Band Dress uniforms inc feather bonnets, that were seen riding round Malvern Park in the 70"s during a local Pipe Band Contest. I can Name them as well but I wont.

Hey Hobot, I forgot about those pesky "O"Rings. The Wiring could just be tied up with the rest of the bike though.

Well Dereck I got sucked in over my head time-effort-expense-knowledge-tools wise, by seeming well meaning advisers saying its "such a simple machine" ... "what could go wrong - dive right in." Basically my message is, alot more time-effort-expense-knowledge-fumbles & error chasing, than implied by the seeming well meaning posters, like me. Best wishes on complex of wiring short cuts if removing yokes. Which ever and how ever the new finish is applied I'd recommend some back up with a clear coat or two. Btw this is another example of wide scope of uses packing a woman's hair dryer in your tool kit. Pre-warm helps too as paint stays put better w/o runs and bugs sticking as easy.

I had my yokes powder coated when the frame was done. Looks good, but it is a light grey rather than silver.

Me thinks a flat piece of neoprene cut to shape [ or a flat type sealing ring of the right size ] and glued to the yokes would be a better option than the "O"ring.
