Faster cornering on race circuits.

When I rode under those three guys at turn two on Winton, they we all high on the circuit, going as fast as they could at full lean. I simply rode up the inside of the circuit with my bike near-vertical. Most of my turning was done as I braked into the corner, or just after. I effectively had the race won, except for the minor technical glitch. which stopped the motor.

Wasn't that one of Hailwood's tricks to get round some of the bends on the island with the Honda six?
I would not use a bike on the IOM which self-steered. I'd be happy to have something which was stable and tended to run wide as I went faster in corners. Imagine accelerating at full throttle from way back in the corners at the IOM. Even Phillip Island is too much for me. Even a slow bike is too fast there. And that is the point - in a straight line Commandos are relatively slow, unless they come out of corners faster, due to high cornering speed. At my last meeting the 1100cc CB750s were heaps faster down the straights, but I was still up with the leaders in two races. The last race was when I rode under them.
I had them beat, and I will probably never have another opportunity to do that again.
