Domminator ss

Agree with Voodooo, no knows exactly how many dominators standard came out of the factory and to say that the standard dominator is rarer than the ss is just guesswork . Also I cannot believe that Norton has not got the paperwork for the Stuart Garner era. They are not helpful what so ever and dont even bother to reply to letters and emails. All they seem to be interested in is the electrifying the new models. When that happens and theres no more parallel petrol driven twins then the Norton brand will be finally dead.
The problem is, as there are no records, saying anything is rarer than another...e.g SS is rarer than standard is also just guesswork. We know how many SS's were made...200..but that is allegedly. Were all 200 made? Not sure. Standards? Not a clue. I recon Stu would probably have the best guess on this though..and from what I see out there, the majority of Domi's are SS's, which tends to back his view up. I heard standard Domis were made to order, so not stocked as it were. Someone may know better on that. Given the shenanigans that went on at the factory, I can completely believe there are no accurate records. The best we are going to get is probably the Norton Owners club with their register of 961's...but it could take years to build up a picture..and even then, they may not get tem all!

Was there a limited number of Domiracers or were they in continuous production?

I thought Production kept pretty good records tbh....the production managers that I knew, bar the very last one during SG era (Mark Roberts was an absolute arse...but they weren't building much during that time anyhow), were very methodical guys. One Ive known since school, and the other was ex Estonian army sargent, and national boxing champion....he was very much into discipline and procedures etc.
Engine build kept a log of every engine built, with noted added to any engine that had some in particular ie a revised component or procedure applied.
So I'm pretty sure the information is there, somewhere.

I dont know about how many models were sold however looking at the dominator on you tube before I went ahead and bought one I noticed that there are quite a few dominator standards in India and Australia. Also tvs have said they will build the dominator and commando under licence in India.
Anyway everyone who has any clue about motorcycles know that the Dominator ss edition is the king of Nortons😁

Sorry, but the Domiracer takes that crown...SS a well deserved 2nd place.

Ignore the preproduction red calipers, and the fake carbon wrapped "carbon airbox"....production Domiracers didnt have that.

I wonder if the records will come to light....I'd like to think so...but until then, it's going to be 🤔 🤔 on numbers...we may never know, which is a shame...

They may one day find the records in some loft or out building in a pile of papers headed top secret for eye only, just hope that it's the end of domiracer and dominator either standard or other. If tvs are going to re-introduce the dominator in this country then that will result in the devaluing of the dominators bought in the Garner era. I know its sacralidge but I am going to keep mine unregistered and she will never see the open road like she was ment to. I'm going to keep her till one day my Grandson who is 1 says to me "Grandad did they really make engines that run on fossil fuel" and then I shall see how much it's worth. Til then safe riding👍

My son is under 3mnths..... I'm going to most certainly ensure that he knows what an internal combustion engined motorcycle is lol

"Grandad did they really make engines that run on fossil fuel"

I can’t see anyone saying that for a very long time. We’ll be using fossil fuels for a long time yet👍👍. Good question, what will bikes be worth....or any vehicles be worth when fuel is scarce? 🤔🤔Luckily I don’t think it will be in my lifetime. 😄

Yeah, I thought so...kinda depressing though. You could say it would never happen, but look at how easy our governments changed the world during covid.

I'll give it a watch. The thing is with this whole 'going green' I don't believe it will ever be a single solution, for example, Electric. It's going to be interesting how things will work out, but we may be living in the golden age of personal transport..having muliple vehicles for our exclusive use, whenever we want to use them, to go pretty much wherever we want. We might have taken our freedom for granted. But yep, we are petty much passengers in all of this...time will tell...
