Hi all newbie here, just bidded on a auction and won the bid on a 2015 Norton Dominator ss. Number ?? Out of 200.
My question is this, what stops someone from making or buying a aluminium tank and carbon parts and then saying it's a ss edition.
Wrote to Norton and they have no records of previous models as the guy said TVS took over the company and all the records for the Nortons made in the Stuart Garner era where lost. I find this hard to believe but that's what he said.
My chassis number ends in the same as the ss number on the bike so is it the chassis number that is proof or something else?

Thanks Steve.

TVS just took Norton over in 2020. They will not and do not have anything to do with anything Dominator related. Even when Stuart Garner ran the show, there were no records of anything.

Now for the best news, you’ll not be able to get anything specific for the dominator. Meaning no dominator carbon seat, no frame, no yolks, no clip ons, air box, chain guard, mud guard, etc. anything specific to the dominator cannot be had.

TVS has been dragging their feet for 3 years to offering us 961 owners spare parts. They most certainly do not have anything to offer concerning Stuart garner era bikes.

....and the bad news is??

The triple clamp and fork yokes are polished on the SS but not on the Dominator

Thats only Dominator specific parts. I believe top yokes are the same, engine same....think the throttle bodies are different, sprockets same, instruments the same, but granted, a number of specific parts will be unobtanium I’m afraid.

My dominator isn’t a SS and they’re polished.
My naked came a galaxy gray tank and a brushed aluminum tank. Long exhaust and the megaphones and also the needed short race foot control frames and billet levers.

But in answer to the question, I guess someone could easily make up an SS spec bike, pick a number and viola. I think it was 0-50 for the uk, 51 to 200 international? Were they all made? Who knows, given the lack of record keeping.

Thats what Norton told me at the time when it became apparent that the SS would not be streelegal in the USA. They said buy the tank and the megaphones and you have more or less the same thing as an SS

The frame number tells you its an SS, and the SS number will match the last digits of the vin.

Thanks all for getting back to me. As I said earlier my vin/chassis number ends with the number matching the numbered edition. Also got letter from norton stating congratulations on receiving the limited edition.
Could other as owners see if there last 2 digits are the same as edition number to make sure this is a correct verification please.

One other point, It might be that standard Dominators are rarer than the SS editions!

Yes it is a correct verification ie the frame decodes to what model it is and the final digits correlate to the issue number.

The rarest of the Dominators would be the Dominator Donington, followed by the Dominator Streets, then the Dominator Naked, standard Dominators...then Dominator SS-UK, Dominator SS-everywhere else. Alongside this lot, dont forget the Domiracer.

How many of each of you guessed?
Seems the Domi street and naked are the only 2 that are unique.

Agree with Voodooo, no knows exactly how many dominators standard came out of the factory and to say that the standard dominator is rarer than the ss is just guesswork . Also I cannot believe that Norton has not got the paperwork for the Stuart Garner era. They are not helpful what so ever and dont even bother to reply to letters and emails. All they seem to be interested in is the electrifying the new models. When that happens and theres no more parallel petrol driven twins then the Norton brand will be finally dead.

The Street was put together as a cash injection bike...using what they had kicking about. Thats why its a euro 3 spec bike, built into a euro 4 Domi frame, and then msva'd.
The naked came about after a one off was made for Susie's 30th birthday, which then ended up as a production model.
The Dominator Donington is as near as you could get to an SS, after you'd missed the boat so to speak....but with abs.
You have dealer spin off too...KSM did two lots of 3, called the Manxman.
Then you get cobbled together one off's like mine lol. There were a few Dominators that were hacked about into specials.

My naked is a non abs.

Never mentioned the abs on the Naked, as they were built across 3 and 4.
The Dominator Donington looked more like an SS as it had the same finish on the parts.
