Getting past gloves for a minute. ..
Does anybody still use “ Barrier Cream “ these days ?
Before modern skin tight gloves became commonplace and affordable there wasn’t really much else to use for skin protection, at that time the acceptance of heavily engrained skin was waning as of course was the use of a pumice stone .. lol !
Not anymore , but during working life , I certainly did , while tearing down and switching out 14” impellers & wear rings on sewer pumps , my second in command preferred A.I. gloves covered his arms to shoulders … mostly he watched , haha ! Dirty job and it paid the bills , shortly before I left , I oversaw redesign of that particular P house , got control computers , variable speed Gorman Rupp pumps , I could have them apart and returned to service under and hour ….. Thanks for bringing the cream up , I think maybe I will pick a can or two up ….

I'd forgotten about barrier cream. When I did my engineering apprenticeship everyone used to use it. Rozalex was the popular one and it's still available today. Good stuff.

ILLF8ED Barrier Cream is was a cream that you’d apply and rub into your skin and once dried it seals the pores and creases to help prevent the worst of the ingraining of dirt / oils / greases etc, made washing hands a simpler affair and was a decent way of avoiding dermatitis as a mechanic etc
Rozalex was the of choice back when I was on the tools
Craig just looked on the web and see it is still on sale

did anyone else mix sugar with swarfega and clean hands like I used to, about the only thing that worked on me.
You can get swarfega type hand cleaners with grit already in
But fairy liquid and sugar is my preference (only on my hands)

I’ve done the sugar thing in the soap works ok too
At work we used “ Reinol “ hand cleaner which is the best I ever came across after a few decades on the tools, so impressed I took a couple of tubs home from work for a more in “ in depth scientific analysis “ Lol !!
Reinol has ( had ) ground walnut shells in the soft soap paste, very little product required to clean the hands unlike other stuff so a tub at home will last for years !

Anyway … back on topic to gloves 🤠
