Crazy things you see on the internet

Cringing from the start. I couldn't even get to the Norton part.
Yeah, it was painful for a well seasoned brain. While doing a lot of skipping ahead I think I actually said when are you going to shut the fu-ck up and get to the point out loud.

It is easy to criticise ignorance. Most experienced motorcyclists have a different mindset and values to the norm. However, most of the guys who access this forum seem to be very switched-on, even the beginners. What some idiots do to motorcycles is criminal. I have seen a motorcycle which became a letter-box at a farmer's gate.

What's wrong with that Al, lots of artistic letter boxes around and more so in the country, if an old bike is gone past it's used by date, turn it into something useful.

Oh I skipped through it
It's around halfway to three quarters through where he welds a boss straight on to the fish tail silencers
And the bolts them rigidly to the commando Z plates
Used to see this all the time at the shop. Cracked pipes and had to explain why you can't solid mount pipes on a Norton. The hard part was the fact that most of them didn't get it!

Only Commandos have rubber mounted exhaust, what about all the non isolastic Norton models that were hard mounted, I have seen more Commando header pipes cracked as well wore out the screw in flanges threads, my 850 in the Featherbed frame has had solid mount exhaust for over 42 years now and not one crack, each exhaust has only one mounting bolt on the rear muffler and the screw in flange at the motor, I still have the original threads in the flange, I don't even have locking devices for the flange as they never come lose.
So really they did get it.

Commando mufflers could probably have hard mounts if a flexible pipe was integrated in the headers. It would have to be close to the exhaust nut, in order to minimize movements at the muffler end of the headers. Many cars have an arrangement like this, because their engines are rubber/visco-elastically mounted, but their exhaust header is out of sight. On a naked bike, it's not an appealing view.

I think the point is he has fixed ex mounts in an isolastic mount engine

I was commenting on can't solid mount pipes on a Norton as I do know Commandos are all rubber mounted and have seen many headers on Commando with cracked headers, mine cracked after 3 years from new around where the balance pipe fits.

That's an interesting bike rack, one or other of my lighter bikes would probably fit well. Is it home made? I wonder what the weight carrying capacity might be and about the owners experiences of using it.
TIA, Steve

I have one of those $100 HF ones, and carried my ZRX1200 on it with no worries. 485 pounds. Loading it up there was the hard part, getting it off was not quite as dodgy.
