Crankcase Breather Kit

I like the idea of the banjo - less rocker cover better. I ordered one from Norton and I have it here. !

Tony,

How much did the banjo-less rocker cover cost?

Hi BritTwit,

I am waiting for the Breather Kit to arrive at my local dealer however am a little concerned that the kit will arrive without the instructions as described.

Your post of the Technical Service Bulletin is great however, is missing the right hand extremity of the document, including the bulletin number. Could I ask that you state the bulletin number for me, and if possible E-Mail the PDF to steveandmo@optusnet.com.au

Appreciate your help. I will post detail of how fitment of the kit goes.

Steve,

The Bulletin# is clearly displayed on the top of each page (TSB-00014) technical service bulletin 14. The issue date 20/08/15 is displayed as well.

I will email the pdf to you.

Hello BritTwit , The cost was 150.84 pounds , plus shipping of course !

Tony,

Good to know, just in case the caps are too ugly to look at.
Thanks.

Fred

Hi Fred (aka BritTwit),

Apologies, it was a Mackbook viewer problem, plus I am an IT retard!!! I see it in full on my desktop and have received your E-mailed PDF. Much appreciated.

I will go armed with a colour copy of this for when the dealer fits the kit, just in case they don't have access. Should increase my chances of a good outcome. The kit will be fitted under warranty.

Awesome forum, always assistance when needed.

Thanks again Fred.

Indian of Orange County installed mine, works well, but so would not overfilling the oil.
The online oil filter that was installed is plastic and won't stop loosening and dripping, I don't think it is needed.
I love to ride my 961 but the chain guard and rear fender are being vibrated to pieces.
I think I have to order the replacements $$$$$$

Are they fracturing at the screw mounts?
How many miles do you have on the clock?

My chain guard also broke at the 90 degree angle at the front mounting area. Funny thing is, it looked to have rust underneath it, yet my bike had never gotten wet. Anyway, it was still under warranty. I paid the difference for the carbon fiber. it is so much stronger and not impervious to moisture. That...and it looks nice.

Happened exactly the same and did exactly the same... and the carbon one is lighter and thus less vibrations.

Hi , you can also increase their life by putting rubber fender washers under the stainless flat washer already there. You need to use Loctite on the bolts because you should NOT tighten the bolts too much. Just snug , a little bit more than finger tight . Remember to use Loctite (blue type) the bolts will stay put and your parts will not break again. I also use the carbon parts including the hugger. I drive fast down the freeway all the time with this bike, so I know what vibration can do. I still want to see who can go the longest without tearing down the motor. Primary doesn't count because of the split gear spring and clutch BS. Motor and Tranny only and Valve inspection and head torque don't count either.

Can I buy into this thread please?
I purchased my 2014 Commando sport from a dealer about 1200 km ago. Before purchase I asked for the oil in air box upgrade to be installed. I t appears to have been done. Rocker box banjos blanked off, drain bottle and check valve installed etc. But there is another check valve installed on the other side of oil pump. Please see photo's.

My engine is still wet sumping.
Last two rides each about 100 km long. There was a two week break in between.
Oil all over the place.
It doesn't seem to happen until about 70 km I notice lack of rear brake.
Last time oil level dropped from middle dip stick to just registering on bottom of dip stick.
I can only presume the rest of mods to oil pump etc where done by dealer.
I have done all mods as per Richard.

That doesn't look the same as mine. I'd post a pic but my bike is at the dealer. There is one on this forum somewhere. You don't have that big stupid looking S shaped catcher in the oil line. May look stupid but it works. Anybody else have a pic they can post?

First (top) photo is the in-line filter screen Norton has started to incorporate. I was told this is to stop larger particles from getting in and fouling the feed side check valve. The second photo (bottom) is the return side check valve . My in-line oil filter screen in made from aluminum with a stainless screen internal. Not plastic . Are you wet-sumping still ?
If so , determine which side feed or return. The modification seems to work well if you can control the wetsumping.. If your oil level is dropping during non running periods you may have this. You can perform some simple tests to find out. If the wetsumping is intermittent then one of the valves is sticking ?

The return side can be tested by removing bottom oil banjo bolt and allowing the oil to drain into a pan. If this side is working , no oil will come out after some days . A similar test can be done with the feed side and removal of the oil pump. Only held on with 3 bolts. The feed side check valve is in the oil pump so you must incorporate it.

Hi Britfan , In 2016 Norton started to move the oil air separator up and back closer to the air box. The connecting hose part numbers changed to accommodate this . It was visually more appealing. On the Domi it still remains closer to the crankcase like yours.

Hi all, me again.
I have that S bend as well.
But i don't think I am wet sumping.
The oil level was the same as when last ridden, from memory it had not dropped over the two weeks.
I did do 180km for a few minutes maybe that contributed to the oil over filling the perfume bottle. But it shouldn't.
I have ridden it for about 10ks this afternoon with no oil in bottle.
I have topped the oil up to mid way on the dip stick. Is this ok?
I think I'll just keep an eye on the oil level for a while.
Lots of I's in that I know but getting old.

Simon

Hello Nopdog , you may want to get the latest oil dip stick then . It is longer and has different (lower) with knurled area for easier reading. If the oil tank is over filled filled this may help you. Try lowering your full level a bit on your current stick . I assume you are still using the original 110 mm stick ? The new stick is marked some 15mm lower at least.
