That has been my verdict about all the Classic mags for a while now sadly.Having read this, this morning, my verdict is: Give it a miss & save yourself £5.40
I’ve gone from having them all on subscription… to only buying when something looked interesting… to not even bothering to look at them anymore.
The only one I still get monthly (on subs) is OBM. And that’s just out of habit I think !

almost the only thing I learnt from the CBG Commando article was that the Mk3 could be ordered as a 750, but not many were. Is that true?
They mention the very rare 1969 750 R, but no picture.
“Electric starters were fitted to Mk3, Interstate, Interpol,Roadster and JPS models” ……oh yeah?
At least Accessnorton is listed as a resource!

However, I use the "Pressreader" app on my ipad, in conjunction with free access to the content via my local Library, which allows me to view numerous bike magazines (and newspapers) at no cost.
I used to subscribe to "Classic Bike" a few years ago, until the articles seemed to become repetitive.

Over the years I've formed a dim view of nournalists. I've occasionally been close to stories covered in the press and, without exception, facts have been wrong and skewed. The husband of one of my wife's friends is a technical journalist. I wouldn't trust him to write me a birthday card.
I used to subscribe to Classic Bike. Then the team from (I think) 'Practical Sportsbike' took it over, when that magazine closed down. Now dominated by 80s and 90s Japanese bikes. Fair enough, a sign perhaps of the shifting market/demographic (but then why did that magazine close?), but not for me.
The 'Classic Motorcycle' recently had a yellow 750 Commando they tested. The bike had a slipping clutch, so a pretty useless road test.

The good old days were always better ? When I was a kid, there were two regular motorcycle magazines 'Motorcycle' and 'Motorcycling' - both were similar to the thing musicians used to do when they paid radio announcers to play their music. I learned a lot more by reading Phil Irving's book 'Tuning for speed'.

There were the short stroke 750's made with 850 type barrels and the cases stamped in the 235XXX range, but even when made as an 850 they were not electric start. Just another journo making up facts as he goes along skimming the history and with no understanding.

The Classic Motorcycle is still very good though tanks to young editor James Robinson.

I think my problem with the classic bike press is that I started reading about bikes in 1976, and read the original tests of our bikes when they were (almost) new, followed by the first articles about them as classics.
Now it’s written by people who have never known a Commando as a superbike, but only as an old classic.
Hence, no interest for me either.
