cold engine blues

Great news, I have heard that 75% of carb problems are electrical, Just as Norbsa said. Sometimes people look all over and then find something like you did by mistake. Hope you can sort it out in short order, Have a great day and let us know how and what you find, Chuck.

Just got the old bike back to it's usuall self. Turns out I was the problem. After pulling rear fender and light to make the rear 520 chain swap I wired the brown and red wires up crossed. I was in to much of a hurry to get the bike finished so i could ride to work on Friday. Thanks for all the help.

Steve,

I had a very similar problem with my VM34 Mikuni, and it turned out that the idle jet was way to small a 20 when the recommended size is 30 or 35. With that fix, the bike starts on choke as per normal, but after 30 seconds or maybe a minute in colder weather I turn it off and it runs fine.

Also pays to squirt some carb solvent through the whole thing when replacing any jets.

Mick

Steve,

You must be the only guy here who has caused his own problem (cough cough). Glad you got her sorted out!

Funny how from now onward, the next time we have to perform the same operation we get it right the 1st. time!

Well what started out as an easy repair has now gotten way worse. I pulled the tank to look for loose wires and after finding the problem at the tail light I was ready to put everthing back together. After letting the gas tank slip out of my hand and hit the floor I now have to repaint my tank. Wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't just painted it back in the spring.
