Cat less exhaust and ECM tuning.

I have a 2016 Commando 961 SF. What pipes are available to get the sound of the dominator?

Get the South Bay exhaust like DallasNorton has . They will sound good !

Commando and Dominator have exactly the same engines, so the map should not be dependent on if Commando or Dominator .
Raphi

This is not correct, please speak to your dealer if changing exhaust systems on either Commando or Dominator models.
Simon, thanks a lot for your answers,
Can you please tell us what is the difference between engines of Commando and Dominator 961 other than the ECU?
Is there a new Swiss dealer in the meantime?
Regards, Raphael

Different maps for 2016. There are no options for you ---yet!!

This is not the case, all models 2010 to current have the ability to have either stock or aftermarket exhausts fitted and the applicable calibration applied, obviously anything other than the stock exhausts are not permitted for legal use on road and are only provided as 'off road' versions.

Fair enough. After re-reading what I typed, I should have been more clear. The maps for the 2016 ECU are not interchangeable with the older bikes. My point was that don't go asking for maps you may have heard about on here that relate to older bikes.

Thanks Simon

Oh, and I forgot about the airbox. Difference in its design might make a difference in mapping as well...
Sorry for the too quick answer, but I am no mechanic ;-)

Hi chaps , my 2016 s/f with short stubby pipes & decat pipe (factory Motad supplied & fitted) has a "2016 aftermarket map " fitted at 500 miles , mileage 9,500 now , starts & runs fine , no stalling ,on starting it revs to bout 1500, two mins approx later revs drop to bout 1250 , rode for up to 12 hours a day with no cut outs/no bad starting / no stalling & extreme temps & another thing don't think anyone's mentioned on here is "altitude" I rode thru some high ground in Oregon & Washington state , and it didn't worry the bike ,but it might be a prob on the wrong map ? Any thoughts , Richard Pearce

Hello Richard Pearce ! You must be back home by now I suppose ? Wife and I are going to Manx GP next year August any chance you will go ?

Can I install and purchase domiracer exhaust for my 2016 commando SF?
I prefer the looks and sound. After seeing the SBN pipes I don't like the angle of the mufflers.

Follow this link and look through this thread. Another member iwilson has a dominator and he had fabricated a megaphone system . Please note that the Norton Domiracer exhaust is open megaphone and not rubber mounted. Look through that entire thread and you can read about it.

Thank you Tony.
I have another question, I tried looking for a section on the forum where you search for other threads, where do I find that? I see the one in the top right corner but it takes me to google.

Yes , then look for a topic in the google list that looks right and it will take you back into accessnorton forum. Try it.

There are not a lot of options at this time. There are two free flowing exhaust available both use the factory head pipes. South Bay has a system and there is the Norton Motad option. Both of these have two styles to choose from. This is the Motad Short/loud system w/o cat X pipe .

Cat less exhaust and ECM tuning.

Hello,

I'm sorry to bother you but i own a Dominator SS 961 (N°63)....I live in France and there is only one Norton dealer (in Paris...900kms of my house)...I have a lot of trouble with my motorcycle and i would like to know what software do you use to remap ECU ?

Thank you very much

I do not do it myself. I go to my dealer. I read on this forum that a Australian owner was able to get his software downloaded by the Norton Factory over the internet remotely. But he still needed to go to a dealer who had the cable , computer and internet . I suggest that you contact the Factory directly via email or this website . You can try to PM Simon Marshall or email Karen Fearon she will know who to contact. What is wrong with your bike ?

I have a 2016 Dominator with SBN pipes. Matt and Carlos tuned it and rides and sounds great. I've had Motad shorty pipes (catless) on my 2014 Commando CR with #70 and it was just ok. My local dealer would not flash #90 since it's not for Commando.
Cat less exhaust and ECM tuning.

Which pipes do you like better, motad or SBN?
How would you rate the sound between stock, motad and SBN?
Thanks

Stock: not really any sound, at least I wouldn't call it sound ;-)
Motad short: very, very loud, but it is a sound
Motad long open: loud and nice sound, but as the shorty and stock problem with ground clearance
SBN: between long open and shorty concerning sound level, thus quite loud, but nice sound and less problems with ground clearance
Raphi, Switzerland

Stock=sewing machine
Shorties=raspy, like Termignonies on a Duc
SBN=Deep and throaty, not obnoxiously loud, but they know your coming.

Where in France do you live? There are two dealers in the south of Germany and a special one in Switzerland near to the border to Germany.

Cheers

SBN, Motad, stock in that order. Partially because the updates to 2016 engine. I think Norton has made huge improvements to 2016 models.
