Hi guys,
I'm a automotive mechanic by trade and I do all my own work on my track cars. I'm new to the motorcycle world and I have a question.
I bought my bike from South Bay Norton in California but I live in Michigan. I want to install SBN catless pipes and mufflers. Has anyone used these and how is the sound and quality? Or is their another option? I love the sound of the Domiracer!

Also does anyone do data logging for tuning purposes? In the car world you can plug a tuner into your OBD2 port and drive the vehicle and record it then go into the ECM and tune the engine by changing its timing, fuel curvs, etc. or you can record it after doing data logging and email the data log to a tuner so they can make the changes for you after they review the data log you provided and make the necessary changes then email you back the new tune which you load back into the bikes ECM. SBN told me it takes them about 30-40 days to get the pipes, once they do they said for me to ship them my ECM and they will reflash it for the catless exhaust. Seems like a hassle to me.

There are not a lot of options at this time. There are two free flowing exhaust available both use the factory head pipes. South Bay has a system and there is the Norton Motad option. Both of these have two styles to choose from. This is the Motad Short/loud system w/o cat X pipe .

Cat less exhaust and ECM tuning.

I have the SBN Dominator silencers with the SBN cat-less Xpipe on my 2013 CR.
I have used the #77 factory map and had issues with starting, cold idling, and performance flat spots due to lean fueling.
Currently, I am using the #90 map suggested by Matt and Carlos at SBN.
The bike runs great now.

The SBN Dominator silencers sound great, but are loud.
Not Harley obnoxiously load, but load enough for your neighbors to notice.
Something to consider if you live in a quiet community.
From idle to about 4500 RPM the exhaust sounds like a Ducati.
Above 4500 the exhaust sound is like a jackhammer.

SBN also make a quieter silencer called the Torquer.
Less noise, a little less top end power, better mid range torque.

I'm interested in the Dominator pipes and catless system then. I live in a rural area. To get the #70 or #90 map what is needed? Can I do this on my own or do I have to send in the ECM to SBN?
I have a 2016 SF

Ahh man. So I'm stuck with the stock exhaust? Matt Capri said they would reflash the ECM is that an option or no?

As far as I know SBN do not have anymore the Dominater and Torque exhausts. I got a different one from SBN with a much steeper angle than the former type, but the sound is awesome...

What year is your bike? Did you have to do any ECM tuning?

Ask Southbay , they can tell you what you need. They have worked with Norton from early on. If you need a map they can get it for you . Give them a call bro !!! It's their exhaust , and can get it done .

The stock exhaust ain't bad. It's Motad. A bit too quiet mid range suffers. But when you rev it up it can still get a move on. So just letting you know .

You are not stuck with the quiet exhaust. You are stuck with fuel map options for 2016 bikes. There is one for each of the norton exahusts. But not an option of all sorts of tuned maps for aftermarket ..... Yet.

Hello Richard , What was Richard Pearce running on his 2016 with the Motad short loud system ? I remember that Norton went back to OMEX in 2016 and this was the best system yet. But didn't Richard have an Norton remap for the exhaust ? Tony

I have a 2016 Dominator with SBN pipes. Matt and Carlos tuned it and rides and sounds great. I've had Motad shorty pipes (catless) on my 2014 Commando CR with #70 and it was just ok. My local dealer would not flash #90 since it's not for Commando.

Hello DallasNorton , You must have the OMEX ECU in your 2016 Domi ? So you are running 090 then in this bike ? This is what Voodooo needs to go to if he runs those pipes , but he has Commando ? I would call South Bay and ask .

Commando and Dominator have exactly the same engines, so the map should not be dependent on if Commando or Dominator but the exhaust and with or without cat. Domiracer has megaphones which is different, but still it is a 961 engine.

Different maps for 2016. There are no options for you ---yet!!

This is not the case, all models 2010 to current have the ability to have either stock or aftermarket exhausts fitted and the applicable calibration applied, obviously anything other than the stock exhausts are not permitted for legal use on road and are only provided as 'off road' versions.

This is not correct, please speak to your dealer if changing exhaust systems on either Commando or Dominator models.
