Carbon Fiber Wheel Update

Welcome to the club Vernon - been off the site for a while so I missed this thread. I never had the opportunity to do the weight comparison as mine were fitted at a dealers, so very interested to see the final totals. Expensive, yes! Performance improvement, priceless!!

I’ve been openly accused of exaggerating the impact of the wheels on handling, and been ribbed mercilessly by my riding buddies as a result! Now you get to experience it first hand and can satisfy yourself with the same smug grin that I use! Unfortunately, no amount of weight saving can compensate for the 100+ horsepower deficit between our bikes, so I further satisfy myself by repeating the phrase “oh look, another Ducati” every time we see one, “my gran’s got one you know”?

Enjoy! Long live Norton.

Well, the time finally came. I did an oil change and despite some wiggling to get the new filter in, it all went smoothly. This was one of a few projects in the garage, but I had reached a point on an engine strip down where I needed a tool I didn't have...so as the sun was shining and temps good...and an uncertain amount of fuel in the tank, I thought I'd take her out for a spin!

First impressions were excellent and almost instantly noticeable, just kinda weaving down the road to get a feel of the bike. I come out of my road, take a left then there are immediately some nice curves going into the center of town. Turn in felt much quicker and far less effort on the bars, just a nice lean and the bike went where I wanted it to go. I also own a speed triple and it felt far more like that, perhaps better, which was the feel I was after. One aspect that did suprise me was that pick up (acceleration) seemed better, but that could just be my imagination, so I'll see about getting some more miles on these wheels and see what I think, as I probably only did maybe 15-20 miles with a fuel stop (my low light does work..never had it come on before!) One other factor, however, is I have new tyres as well, so there could be a difference there. The wire wheels had Pirelli Rosso corsa 2's, while the new wheels have Diablo Rosso 4's.

One thing that was nice was that after at least 4 months sitting in my garage, started up first time and sat there and idled really well/

So, first impressions really good, with really nice 'flickability' as they say, but that is simply how I felt...I'll get some more miles on them and report back.

When you start to work the suspension you should notice a good effect too !
