Carbon Fiber Wheel Update

I can't give you the weights of the wire wheels alone, as the current tyres are staying where they are, BUT will weigh the wires with tyres vs carbons with tyres.

Here are the weights of the carbons:

Rear grams, 3900

I'll update this with 'with tyre' weights on Friday

Interestingly, my seem to be heavier than kens.
"New wheels are 4.62 lbs. front and 5.94 lbs. rear"

My front weights almost as much as his rear!
For direct comparison, my front is 5.3lbs, my rear is 8.6lb
Something new going on there ?

Not Sure. I think Voodoo needs to order a set and weigh them as well! Fairly sure of the accuracy of my scales, but lets see how they compare with tyre , to with tyre, as that's the difference I'm looking for.

I wonder if the manufacturer has added some material for added strength?

Use helium instead of air for the tire pressure. I’m being literal.

Would it be rude to ask the price of these beauties?

Mine were US$3,144.99 from AF1 Racing back in August 2019. That was back when they had to get them from Norton. Might be cheaper if you can now get them direct from BST, but I doubt it. That doesn't seem to be how the world works.:(

'Not cheap' is one answer o_O In Euro, the front was 1185, the rear was 1365, the sprocket carrier was 230 and the satin finish I wanted was an extra 130 per wheel. Shipping is on top of that and highly dependent upon where you are in the world. For me in the UK, this was 220. If anyone wants them, I have the direct contacts at BST. I make that 3712 ish USD, so significantly more expensive than Kens...but I had the satin finish and the Sprocket carrier, plus shipping to me, which could well account for that difference. I do consider this bike a keeper though!

I took the front wheel off last night, just to test fit for the correct spacers etc. Everything fitted fine.

One note on this stand I uses:

Black Pro Range Front Head Stand (B5064)

It does not quite lift the bike up enough to remove the front wheel without removing the mudguard. You can drop the wheel down, roll forward, but it then hits the cross bar of the stand that is on the floor, lifting the wheel and tyre up just enough to catch the mudguard before the wheel is clear.

Hoping to have some nice sprockets bolts and nuts today, so rear wheel off tonight and I'll assemble the new sprocket carrier. I'll give the calipers a good clean as well and do some general cleaning around the front end. It would be rude not to.

....and for your delectation, the information that comes with the wheels. I've included these at full size so they are readable. Interesting they refer to the Norton 952, but the guy advertising the single rear wheel a while back also referred to his conversation with BST and said they were for a Norton 952, so I would not read much into that. Front is listed as for a Ducati 916/996

Well, I was all excited to go to the garage (yes, I know, sheltered life) wit my shiny new sprocket bolts and nuts, so as upgrades to the BST supplied items...and I find the nuts are not locking nuts. Que email to the supplier of said upgrade items specifically sold for these wheels to ask 'what gives'. Could be a genuine error.

I might be being a bit over zealous, but when I spend 25 quid on nuts, they need to be the right spec.

Thanks for posting the info. I didn't get anything like that with my wheels, but they came via Norton and then AF1 Racing, so must have lost the paperwork somewhere along the way.

OK, small update. I have been viciously abused by my tyre fitter of 'worrying about nothing' on the locking nuts thing. He even said it with a smile on his face! I might be slightly exaggerating there, but I believe this seems to be the modern way of report such interactions. I'll proceed to storm off and take to social media as soon as possible! :D

So, having acceded to his point and having some threadlock to hand, I'm happy.

and the good news is I now have tyres upon the rims!

Nice looking hardware .

Weekend update, I was able to spend time in the garage, so got a fair amount done. One issue that stops me completing the job is not having something suitable to hold the front wheel spindle while torqing it, so awaiting a spanner for this. then I'm all set to get the front done.

It took a suprising amount of time to properly clean these up. Purchased a slim stiff brush for detailing, plus lots of brake cleaner to get them to a good standard of cleanliness. I suspect they have never been properly cleaned.

I weighed the rear wheel like this 'as fitted'

This was 17.050Kg, 37.6 lb

I weighed the carbon wheel 'ready to fit' as well, as I noted the sprocket carrier for the BST wheels was heavier than the standard.

Once I can torque up the front spindle and pinch bolts, I can wheel out and get a proper photo.

Very happy with the look, but very keen to ride, although not sure when that will be.
