Bike cutting out

Have you verified no spark to that cylinder ? Is it an ignition issue ?
Hi Tony, no not yet. No spark on left cylinder. Bike already has a replacement Bosch coil pack but are cheap enough to replace so will try that and see if that cures it. Seems to be 1 problem after another. I’ve only had the bike a month ☹️

Hi Dave, I think I’d whip the tank off again and see if there is anything amiss. There is a connector feeding the coil pack which may have got disturbed. Also have a look at the loom near the rear of the tank, and make sure it isn’t being crushed. Mine was, so I put a thicker rubber pad under the tank so it just clears it.

I found one for sale on EBay, so snipped a picture of it. (don't buy that though, as I don't think it's a Bosch one).

If you have a multi meter, perhaps measure across the pins to see if it actually faulty?

Take out both plugs connect to the boots, ground them to the head while cranking the engine over . Check for spark at the plugs gaps make sure of this before going further.

Thank you, I’ve found some online that are Bosch so if I’m not able to test will buy a new one and try that. Many thanks for your help and advise

Hi Tony, tried that. If I swap the ht leads at the coil end the opposite side sparks which I guess means only one of the two coils is working or there is no power to that coil

OK so try a coil and ohm out the wires leading to it from the ECU.

Do you have the service manual ?

Measure the primary winding resistance as follows:
o Connect the tester between the coil terminals.
o Set the tester between the coil terminals.
 Measure the secondary winding resistance as follows:
o Remove the plug cap by turning it counter-clockwise.
o Connect the tester between the spark plug lead and terminal.
o Set the tester to the 1 k Ω range and read the tester.
o Measure primary winding resistance
o Measure secondary winding resistance
o Ignition coil [C]

Ignition Coil Winding Resistance
Primary: 0.14~ 0.22 Ω Secondary: 3.8 ~ 5.8 kΩ

Hi Tony, thank you. No I don’t have a service manual I’m afraid.
I have 3 terminals on the coil pack plus the 2 HT ones , could you tell me which terminals I need to connect to what please.
Many thanks
Dave

Hi Dave, this video should help. It’s not an identical coil, but the principle is the same.

Hi , Use Cliffa's video as a guide . Center pin on the primary plug is the 12V common. So measure like it shows center pin to each pin L and R of it for very low ohms . Then measure the seconday like the video showsin the higher K ohms range. You may need to replace the coil to be sure. Thanks for the video Cliff !

The manual is available on the site . Correct Cliff ?
Yes, that and many more Tony👍

Dave, loads of manuals and info here..

Workshop manual..

Wiring diagram ( not sure if it will match your bike exactly)

Tony, do you have any earlier wiring schematics by any chance? We only seem to have Euro 3 & 4 versions on here.

I have the SC ECU pre and post Dec 2013 and 2016 Euro 3 OMEX on paper only and Euro 4 in PDF . I need to get them converted to PDF .

Hi Tony, I found a picture of the relevant diagram you’d posted previously.

Dave, in the diagram, the coil pack is above the color chart. Power is on the centre pin, and the signal wires go back to pins 13 & 14 on the ecu. I can’t make out the wire colours, but hopefully Tony can tell us a bit later. Have you checked that the ECU plug is fully home?

IMPORTANT - Before doing anything with the ECU disconnect the battery!!
