On the BSA unit single I made new wiring on last year, I fitted a 3 way ignition switch ( + an unused starter motor position).
Pos 1: Ignition on, battery connected to charging system.
Pos 2: Ignition off, battery disconnected. Key removable.
Pos 3: Ignition on, battery disconnected. Emergency starting thanks to the MC2 capacitor.
Works well, only had to recharge battery once during winter hibernate. Never need to take out fuse or disconnect battery.
Will make something similar on the 650SS project.
The TexasSlick switch suggestion is good and easy to do, especially if the switch is hidden. Limiting unauthorised starting of the bike.
