One of our members (drones76) suggested we have a poll to find out how far forum members ride their Commandos each year.

This would be the total yearly mileage for all Commandos owned if that happens to be more than one Commando, but the figure should not include mileage of any other type/make of motorcycle.

If the yearly average cannot be determined then enter the mileage figure for the past year. If the exact mileage is unknown then an estimate will do, but please remember this is not a competition to find out who has ridden the furthest distance but only to get an approximate idea of how far we ride our Commandos.

Ha a mean and trick question for me. During Peels reign in her prime I was getting about 5000 miles a month [in '03 and '04 so went through about a tire a month, so my constant standing request for old tires others don't want that ain't cracked too bad nor have cords showing. Factory Trixie just ain't the same enticement of Peel to ride no mater the conditions and a deer strike then oil coma piston fracture then a weak rod bolt let go knocked her yearly mileage down to ~7000 all last year with over 3 yr of intervals dead in the shed. Trixie has about 10K miles on her since 2006. When everything is good to go i get in a daily 40 to 160 miles of commutes, errands and explorings. Peel is most a year away form runing but made for thick and thin so look forward to 20K+ miles a year, rather more than on my cage as I don't explore in car or take the long way around. A big luggage rack and side bags help add lots of milegage that otherwise would need a car or truck to carry the cargo.

For Christ sake Steve, take an average and vote accordingly.

I can say for 2012 my total Commando mileage was 8.2 miles. I'm hoping to break 10 this year.

I'm betting there be a inverse correlation between miles done and the amount of postings

I wouldn't take that bet.

haHA- says the man with almost 7000 post!

Two things. The riding season isn't that long around here. And secondly I'm sure that .000000000000828% of those posts are useful.

No offense Dave, but you keep saying the season is short. I used to ride year around when I lived there! Of course I was young and stupid, but your weather is better than my typical riding weather for about 10 months of the year!

I am a little surprized by the low numbers so far. But I quess with the high numbers of the other poll going on, it sort of make sence.

Before I had children, and still had a Day job, I would ride whenever it wasn't raining and from the first sign of spring thru the first salt truck. Best stint was every day for a month including weekends.
Lately the chance to ride has diminished to almost nothing. The accident this spring didn't help any. Between the Combat (8.2) XS650 (4) and the Blast (40) I rode a whopping 52.2 miles this year.
This year should be better. The youngest starts kindergarten in the fall, so I should have more time to ride. I always need to take the truck now. When I work at my shop the dogs go with me. Now that it's freezing they dont. I need to get a sidecar for the warmer weather, the dogs always want to go with me to the shop.

sure you mean sense - but maybe a senile senior moment as suggested

Mars has better weather than Alaska for 10 months of the year.

Fortunately I live in a tropical region known as Canada,, so waiting for good weather isn't a problem. It isn't a problem, cause it ain't comin!! :D
The boys and I ride year round.
My friend Gord is standing, his bike is the blue Honda S90, Bill is on the red pushrod 90 (c200) and I'm on a 49 Matchless G80, bought as a basket case from a basket case hippy dude. His had the bike for two years and did nothing with it other than make the Easy Rider Sissy bar. I felt obligated to use it. Plus I was pretty sure it would make me cool

Annual Commando Mileage? (Poll)

Let's see some pics of your Vincents in the ice and snow. Until then I'm not impressed.

Rode the Glenli about 40 miles on New Years Day, it reminded me of the winter riding we did as kids. It was a sunny day, but as I rolled along I encountered ice fog and was slip sliding on black ice in a few places.
When I got to the open house, an annual Vincent Club get together, I was the only rider. Normally a few brave souls show up on their bikes, not this year. A poll was taken to determine if I was brave or stupid.
Stupid won :)

Glen

We have a lot of bikes here that are being restored. They don't get ridden at all and that is one reason for lower numbers. Many of the bikes that are sorted and ready to ride belong to people with a stable of other bikes to choose from. I am not that surprised by the low average.
