ACE CAFE LONDON 961 MEET SEPTEMBER(REGISTER UR ATTENDANCE HERE)

The 961 is broken again, so unsure whether I’ll get there..........to be honest, it’s not been the best 11 weeks of ownership, kept off the Forum as I was hoping to write up on the issues and how they’d been sorted etc. Not feeling happy but to be honest every time I look at it I know why I need it! Just comes a time when I just can’t get back up........

Sorry to hear that Gary,
Still related to your service issue?
You said you use your bike to commute - might be worth getting a hack to overwinter - bullet proof bandit maybe?

Check the head temp sensor, may be that one is damaged (again). Gently try to turn it with your hand, if it wiggles it is damaged: Bosch part No. 0280130026, cheap part and quite easy to damage, so handle with care...

Just a quick update, the Dealer, who I can’t fault has been brilliant and picked up the bike every time I’ve had an issue or repaired it in situ. They’ve not let it back until they were happy. I know Norton have been contacted re previous issues and resolution found where required. Again Norton have been in my eyes helpful and fast when dealing with the Dealer.
The service problem was a part issue and I put that down to wrong part in bag or perhaps change in supplier, but addressed fast and efficiently.
The 961 is my daily ride, I don’t want anything else to use if it breaks, as it is supposed to be reliable. I expected teething problems, I shouldn’t have to. Everyone before me has faced problems and in a way ironed out issues for those like me who have purchased later versions.
But the number of faults are just getting to me, I am worried to take it further afield now, I just don’t know if I’ll need recovering. I have managed to put some good mileage on it but that’s when it works. To be honest more mileage riding back from the Dealer when he hasn’t been able to get it to me earlier due running a business and not being my personal mechanic.
I have always been happy to collect it as the journey to the Dealer is 65 miles and so much closer than some of you need to make. Made me think how lucky I am so, I just got on with it.
All I want is a bike that runs when I want it to and that I don’t need to constantly call for help.
So everyone is clear, I absolutely love the bike, I even went to the garage last night, to get some tools.....just to admire the bike, it is in my eyes the best looking bike on the road, it’s why I have put up with so much more than anything else I’ve ever bought.

I hear you. I have a 2018 and it has covered over 1700miles without incident. A few very minor 'issues' but a LOT of angst each and every time I ride her mostly because of the myriad of problems that other 2018 owners have endured. It is not good, I have the same bike as you and others. The chewing gum is rapidly losing it's flavor on the bedpost.... Does my bike have faults just waiting to happen? Will they develop during the warranty period so I can get them sorted? Will I still be an owner in 2020 once the warranty runs out? Only time will tell.

I have just spent the afternoon adding a bit of sparkle to my ThruxR as I prepare to run it to my favorite bike meet this evening, the last of this meet this season. Why isn't the 961 going to this event is the question that i've been asking myself all afternoon? Maybe just maybe the flavor of my gum has weakened somewhat!

On my last track day my 961 blew its headlamp bulb.

“So what?” I hear you ask... Well, so far at least, that’s the only downer I’ve had.

These bike are certainly variable ...!

Mark,
I think many of us have the same concerns,
Will I get there? Will I get home? Will it be in the back of a recovery van?
Like you I have not had any issues (since the initial ride from Donnington) and the support from Rob Jameson and the team at Norton has been excellent. However, my essential riding gear starts; wallet, phone AA membership card and then riding gear. I also have a triumph and do not fret in the same way when I take it out. The961 is a great bike when riding as it is designed but the nagging doubt is there constantly.
John

I spoke to Rob Jameson late this afternoon and Norton will arrange collection with me tomorrow. So I obviously won’t be at Ace Cafe Sunday.
Despite the problems, I’ve managed over 1300miles, would have been more but for the problems. Thing is when it works my smile is still ear to ear, it just the fear it won’t get there or back.
Still on a positive note, it’s going to the factory, they’ll no doubt strip it down and give it a good going over. All being well this will get the gremlins out and I can lose the fear factor.

Nah!
Weather app says 20% chance of rain so two possibilities - no rain (highly probable) or absolutely chucking it!
Waterproof liner into jacket just to be sure ....

Sorry lads just been informed sorry told we are going to friends 40th wedding anniversary

STOP PRESS , we got the remnence of Hurricane Florence hitting our manor later today , & lots & lots of rain at the weekend especially this Sunday . However the following week Sunday 30th September ( 59 club /BSA ton up boys are there that day ) .so how we all feel bout putting the Ace Cafe meet back a week ! & aim for that day ? We need to decide over next 24 hrs so we can regroup & replan our 961 lives ??? What say u lot

I think that’s a good idea Rich, the weather this weekend is not looking conducive to a pleasant days motorcycle gathering!

Unfortunately I can’t make the 30th, but I’ll look forward to the pics !

Good idea Richard, 30th is good for me - we can have a proper dust up with the BSA boys (average age has got to be 10-15 years greater than the 961 boys) :D

I did the Oxford DGR a few years ago but was a bit disappointed.

It isn’t really a ‘ride’ it’s more of a constant stop-start with re grouping stops and all distances inbetween covered at little more than walking pace.

I had to rebuild the clutch afterwards too!

I’ll join you the 30th but the factory don’t collect the 961 until this afternoon so still touch and go. All depends when they start to look at it and what they find.

Right oh, moving swiftly on, it’s going to be SUNDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER AT THE ACE CAFE LONDON, we were down to maybe 3 otherwise, probably won’t reach the dizzy heights of the Northampton meet (13) but we should achieve least half that , so let’s try .day light hours are drifting away as well as temperatures, me going to be there mid morning ,hope see new & oldfaces ( well mature ) , moustache for now Richard
