Hmmm, seems alloy tanks are going viral on this forum.

They’re contagious !

I was lucky to find a used one, so saved a small fortune (I didn’t tell the Mrs how much it cost, just how much I’d saved)!

However, they really are a work of art, and a lot of work goes into making one (the underneath is almost better to look at than the top).

So in the grand scheme of things, when you consider the kind of rubbish we often spend money on, and the fact it is a proper piece of hand made art, and the fact that’ll last a lifetime and more, they’re probably a bargain.

See how easy it is to comvince yourself if you try hard enough...?!?

Paint it.
I think not sir...
Might I suggest something like this but with Norton colours and polished alloy

Actually oldbeezer I think you’re onto something there and a partially painted tank would suit those who like the idea of an alloy tank, but also like the idea of paint.

Mine is staying in it’s pure form however !

Yes I am. Not only for aesthetic reasons, the standard screw on job looks like a recipe for disaster to me, only a matter of time before cold gloves hands cross thread it, or the ‘alloy on alloy’ threads weld themselves together.

Yup, it’s a Monza for me!

Nigel,
Just droolin* over your Alu tank and noticed the tank pad - seems to be a %50th anniversary decal. Did you have it made or can you get it commercially?
Thanks
John

One footnote, the gold on my tank protector isn’t quite a perfect match for the gold on the tank. If you’re fussy about such things, send Steve the best pictures you can so he can match things up good.

Oh yes, the threads weld is what I managed to do... Fortunately could be solved with some grease!

Here yer go chaps, waddya think??

I have to be honest, I’m actually not so sure about it now it’s fitted! It’ll no doubt grow on me I imagine.

What kinda polish do you boys use on these tanks? I’ve tried two types so far and it’s a bitch of a job and I keep leaving a streaky residue behind.

How 'bout gold pinstrip to match the script on the side & tail panels. Or black pinstrip or maybe the Norton black & red pinstrip or...... There is a lot of glorious polished alloy there & me thinks it needs a little something to set it off.

Truth be told, your CR is all about being black.
The bright alloy kinda breaks that black line across the top of the bike from the yokes back to the seat.
Of course the tank makes its own visual statement to everyone like:

YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT, THIS IS A FU**ING ALLOY TANK!

With two tanks you can mix and match the tank on your bike to your mood.
Black tank day - classy, elegant, proper
Alloy tank day - loud, unruly, blind everyone with the shine off the tank.
;)

I am inclined to agree Nigel,
Looks a little strange on your CF - I think SgtUSAF80’s painted one looks the dogs and suits the bike better IMO but choice is yours - beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that!
