A late 72 journey out of hibernation (2020)

I installed the triples with cleaned steering bearings then yanked them back off, ordered and installed new bearings, Atsa better! Emgo Fork tubes ordered, received, measured , passed with flying colors, installed.
Sent the speedometer to Bob Carter in Portland, OR, USA, about one month door to door to door. It looks very good and functions properly when spun with a drill. He advertises on Ebay but I contacted him directly to arrange the repair. Happy with this!

Brake overhaul mentioned in another thread, some painting done, time to start bolting front end back together.
I ordered a replacement lucas headlight with H4 conversion from India it came in but has the standard lucas bulb NOT the advertised H4 (I plan on installing an H4 LED). Still scuffling with the seller over replace or refund.

The LED is great. Do it.
I've noticed you are still using the early style head steady. The plate type. Sooner or later it will fracture on you. And then it gets real interesting getting home.

Thanks! That one has been welded once and is on the list.

Welp that bike accidentally got sold now THIS just followed me home.

A late 72 journey out of hibernation (2020)

been sitting on a lift in a garage for 25 years
Engine rebuilt 30 over, new main bearings shows 240 miles since.
Much good some not so much, needs love.
Very strong compression, so strong I have not been able to kick it through with authority, well my aching back.........
title's kinda fuggled. But bonded titles no big deal here.

A week into ownership; I got the smmotorco primary cover seal, so redid the primary. Found the main culprit was no grommet on the alternator wire! A glob of silicon was just hanging from the wire.... Now with a grommet installed and some wire rerouting so it's not rubbing on the cradle. Extensive clean up of flanges and the seal groove, found the new seal was about an inch short, just used a bit of the old to close the gap  put the seam up top bolted it all back up and took off for a 200 mile "test ride" . Much better! Think the primary is tight now. Need to stop some exhaust valve cover drool and she should be good to go til the tranny gets gone through. Glorious day for a ride, sunny dry 60's, back roads Wisconsin. Not done with carburation yet, higher throttle is great, kinda lumpy surge-y at lower speeds, will install the new throttle cables and have another go at synching. After one ride working perfectly, the speedo wandered off into Jittersville, oh well, one step forward, one back. I have now put more miles on the bike in the last week than it had gone in the last 4 years. Will be calling around monday finding a way to get a reduced bore front MC as soon as possible! With lots of deer encounters waiting patiently for the bike to slow down is just not an option. Got cut off in a small town yesterday, truck driver looked right at me and pulled out in my path anyways. I was cursing that pitiful front brake again! About 3 miles later an SUV had rear ended a minivan, if they can't see a minivan....

I just brought the 13mm mastercylinder kit from Madass great price.

The fix for very strong compression and an aching back.

Yeah that chunk of change will have to be down the road a bit, I WAS thinking along the lines of a roller starter.....
Was doing some looking at the bike, registration paperwork, and invoices and now strongly suspect the title is for this bike but a factory replacement frame was subbed in for the original. Looks like it was rebuilt from a wreck back around 1990, due to the parts seen on the large pile of invoices from around that time frame and marks on the primary cover and elsewhere. Single owner since 89 well documented with invoices and registrations. Lots of unused license plate stickers from 2000 up through recent years. Can anyone give me an idea of how far apart engine and frame numbers can be? title VIN is 2015** engine # 2084** frame now has a stamped # 001**

Engine, red frame plate, and tranny would have all been numbers matching from the factory.

Look on top of the top tranny mounting lug for the stamped number, it should match the engine if the frame was replaced.

New frame plates are available and AN will stamp them too.

Yeah no red frame plate (yet, LOL) just the stamped 001**
I'll go looking for the tranny #

Approximately Dec. '71/Jan. '72.

...engine # 2084**...

Approx. July/Aug. '72.

If stamped in a vertical line on the LH side of the headstock then it is likely to be a 'factory' marking generally found on Italian (Verlicchi) manufactured frames. The steel fuel tank is late (850 Mk3) type.

Yes vertical on LH side of headstock. That sounds logical, great info!
Aaaand; two numbers match! Engine and trans are both 2084**
Thanks for the help fellows.
Prolly means the title is for a different bike but it's obvious the PO was using it on this machine and apparently thought it was the right title. Well Wisconsin has a bonded title proccess that's not too bad or expensive, so getting a title that matches engine trans prolly the way to go.

And then a frame plate to match.

These showed up today
A late 72 journey out of hibernation (2020)

anyone got a line on a good matching type number, letter punch set in the US?

Bike doesn't have an oil filter (that kinda confuses me) any good kits or DIY to add one in?
Best combo of quality, price on stainless steel headlight brackets (ears)?
