At 17 we'd buy shotgun cartridges from the local ironmongers, no questions asked!

It used to be possible to buy from the local chemist and grocery stores
Saltpeter for curing animals skins
Flowers of sulphur for your mum’s rose bushes
and with a little bit of ground charcoal
together with a bit of jetex fuse …….
a few large holes could could be blasted in the local woods
