961 is back !

Well, if that's the case, I'm totally underwhelmed.
What is with the blacked-out 961 engines again?
The engines should be grey aluminum color, maybe black cylinders, it's a classic, not a modern sport bike.
Come on Dr Bob, ditch the black paint, go natural.

Looking more and more like a sportster!

Looks virtually identical to my untrained eye. Always preferred the gold pinstripe over the white though. More period?

Still super sexy! Anybody spot any external differences?

My Domi nakeds motor and trans are all black.
My commando is all raw

Of course they’re quieter, it’s a still picture lol.

I spy:
Same brakes
Same oil breather
Same starter
Same motor
Same Ohlins
Same rotors
Same incandescent lighting
Same
Same
Same
Same

Only difference I see are the remote master cylinder reservoirs.

All I hear, are they suppling us with parts? F--k Um Thanks to you guys we now have a list of replacement parts. We are never going to go to the corner store and buy parts! If it was made it can be remade. Its not a Harley where they make new parts every day! It's a Norton and we love them good or bad! Look at Vincent owners, who would have thought you can buy a complete engine!

Although the language has been vague - I think there is little doubt that we will have access to parts that are common between our and re-engineered models. Which is 99%+. No need to f__k anyone I guess!

What do you think they “re-engineered”.
My guess, only the supplier.

I’ll believe the spare parts availability when they actually sell the spare parts. Until then, it’s all a fairytale.

Yeah, externally it certainly looks the same, and we knew TVS/Norton were not doing a complete redesign, so....
The main points of failure on the 961 were internal:
>Clutch basket.
>Starter ring gear
>Balancer shaft, its bearings and intermediate backlash gear
>Trans shifter drum detent spring
>Poorly designed crankcase breather system
>Oil in sump/oil pump one way valves
>Oil supply to rocker bushes
>Poorly designed/implemented throttle-body/EFI system
>Crappy, third party, sensors instead of real Bosch units.
I miss anything?
Oh, a wiring loom which requires extra resistors to prevent stray currents.
All of these fixes, if they have in fact been implemented, would not be visually apparent.

Now they need to furnish a sample for testing by the M/C media.
Then we will all know what the term NEW 961 really means.

Good ride spoilt? Maybe not! Readied for a tootle today and, after battery top up procedure, met with the dreaded clicks. Recently reading a comment from Stu B I decided to check the cam sensor first. Well, struggled to disconnect and then remove so no suprise, seal perished and connection corroded etc. Time for a coffee and price a replacement then thought, let's clean it up and give it a try. So, battery recharged and sensor replaced minus the seal. Started a treat, run up and settled ok, time for a beer. Another day another ride out! Sealing may be an issue me thinks!

And they couldn't even update the mirrors! Ken Sean types of mirror are fine for budget production but come on those have always been a joke.
