50th anniversary Cafe Racer

Please. Do tell. I really thought you enjoyed that bike. I'm with Richard7, I want to test ride the Bobber. I saw a few at the beach and along with your review of the handling, seem like a fun ride. I really do just want a proper two upper though. Probably going to go with a Fat Boy or a Road Glide and join the retirees in subdued riding. sigh
Curtis. I think you may be confusing it with some of my comments about the Bobber which I love. Wrong forum but my Thrux R fogged the gages internally on many nites inside my garage with 8 bikes that didn't, from the get go! It had an intermittent skipping ignition problem and finally quit altogether on the highway, cost $150 for the tow! It spent almost a month at the dealer waiting for a magnet?? before that became a well known problem ( I could have "fixed"it my self in 5 minutes if I knew) Turns out the skipping had nothing to do with it as that continued, though never at the dealership. The nicely polished triple clamp was seriously scratched up by the first week and the plating or whatever was on the header pipes was doing funky things. The paint was so soft it scrathed if you looked at it wrong! I just got a bad one although many of my problems became well documented on the RAT forum about the time I got rid of it! I did love the motor though, when it was running, as I do on my Bobber which has managed to run all season without a hiccup!

Tony, I have ridden the T120 and love the black and white combo! I say go for it. Richard, the Bobber was voted Cruiser of the year by Cycle World, MCN, and me! The offer to ride mine still stands! Curtis, checkout the new for '18 2 seat Bobber at the IMS this weekend I'm going Sunday, but just remembered you maybe in Florida by then, Gold Coast will hold one for you!

Now let's get back to NORTONS!!!

well, stone the crows...

As many of you will know, I’ve gone around the houses a few times thinking about a new 961.

Well, for reasons that I’m not entirely sure of, today I’ve only gone and put a deposit down on a 50th anniversary Cafe Racer!

I blame you bleeders, if it all goes pear shaped, it’s your fault...
The cure for the wanting is the getting! Good choice. I've been happy with my Norton 961. I have ridden it for about 2 years now. I was one of the first to step up and buy one. I have been happy with the bike. I'm waiting for Norton to build one with about 100 HP at the rear wheel. It certainly has the chassis for it. I see prices have come down since the time I made my purchase. I also have seen some pretty negative posts from some of the other owners. I think you have to be willing to wrench on your own bike if your going to own one of these. I haven't had any issues with mine. But if problems start I will be the one to work on it. Good luck with your new motorcycle.

Well here you go guys, it’s taking shape very quickly...

Absolutely, those bits should be missing! I think it’s fair to say mine will be a bit different from the other 49. It will be decidedly more dull, and somber. Should suit me perfectly !

I specified black chassis pack, black rims, CF chain guard, black sprocket, no pinstripes on seat hump. I’m pretty sure the plain seat hump shows it’s mine in the pic.

Not sure why it’s got those big daft mirrors on unless it’s for homologation purposes. Ditto the silencers etc.

To be honest, I’m not even sure if the billet levers are included or not. I’ve asked a few times and not had an answer. Also, whilst they look cool, I didn’t like the feel of them when I tried them at the NEC personally. I will try once more to clarify with Clem on this matter.

That would be really nice, but 100 at the crank would be enough for me.
Yeah, maybe call it a Combat version.:p

Another work of art in progress and almost done too. So cool you get to look it over.

These have the Dominator front end on them. I’m not sure what the differences are, but I know that the clock mount and headlight mounts are different as well as the screen.

I like the oil cooler , looks bigger or different. ? Polished ends or larger end caps . ? Does it have more volume ?

The new fly screen is nice.
It's taking on more of a curved bikini screen shape.
I would love to see a bikini screen for the Commando like the ones on the old '78 Guzzi LeMans.
Nice shapely, and very minimalist in size.

I agree, it looks much cooler in plain alloy. But apart from that I don’t know what the differences are, if any. I do know it used to be listed as a £200 plus option. Not quite sure why anyone would pay that though!
