I need a big spoiled glass Norton tank to put my ashes in so interested in your trashed tank. A 1st Norton is like having a child with genetic defects to correct some of them and learn live with and love the remaining quirks for one hoot of a life style with others in similar parenthood challenges.

I LOVE it! I have already payed for a crppy urn. I wonder if I can get some of my money back to buy and urn tank. Ah perhaps a new business idea.

Hello,

I just bought a 1971 Norton off a friend. It has no gas tank (fiberglass one junk). So...I've read many articles on Fiberglass and everyone is searching for the golden sealer and Metal tanks that don't seem to fit right....so I'm confused what I should do. I'd rather spend more up front for quality lasting tank than play the game. Anyone care to comment? I'm open to all suggestions.
Thank you

After all of the above, get the steel tank either from India or original. Check out Brent at http://www.vintage-vendor.com/
He's a frequest flyer on this site and occasionally has fresh painted tank/side cover sets for sale or can paint what you have.
My original fiberglass tank was coated and currently sits on the garage shelf with little blisters all over the gel coat. Steels the deal.

I told my family that I refuse to be hauled to my gravesite in a Caddy hearse, so the standing order is that I'm going in the back of my Dodge pickup. 'Just put her in compound low, and block traffic all the way there!

Damn, thought for SURE I'd see an H-D listed in you sig line...

If this is your first norton, get the workshop manual, a parts list and the service sheets. Get Kim's Norton CD. Read this site. You should get all the information you need to turn your Norton in to a first class bike.

Welcome! They come around, I saw a beautiful original steel Interstate tank on fleabay last night for $400. Roadster stuff comes up.

Good gawd! 400 bucks? There is another one on there right now for closer to 1300! I'd have bought one for 400 just to have it around!

Russ

And when it arrived it was even nicer than in the photos!
Buys like that are rare these days.

Original paint and striping. No dents, just a couple of small nicks and chipping under the filler neck. My '73 Roadster tank has done the same. My dilemma now is I have a set of NOS Interstate covers in red with silver stripes. To make a set I would need to repaint one or the other. Both are too nice. I'll probably repaint a set of 'glass covers to match the tank.

The point is that good OEM steel tanks do show up. Unless you are looking for a Fastback or Production Racer tank which were never made in steel. For those you must choose from a custom made tank or deal with trying to use sealer.
