Polishing is fine, but they were meant to be ridden.
The harder, the better..........

And in general, take copious amounts of pix from all angles before you get too far. Most useful at reassembly time.

I seen a set up using a new type battery charger and what they did to make it keep charging was use a Flat-Dead battery , so then the charger get's tricked to believe it still needs charging .. The job was for an old MGA car parts , looked to work well ..
