Ah, sweet memory's from 1971. I bought a new fireflake blue roadster in Athens, Greece while a I was serving in the US Navy. Sight unseen, salesman showed me the brochure. $100 to ship to the US when my ship returned to Virginia in July. Went to pick it up and when we opened the crate, a fireflake bronze roadster lived within. Numbers didn't match my paper work so I left empty handed. It seems mine was shipped to NYC. Several months later, along with a threatened lawsuit, I was in rightful possession of my real purchase. That was January, so I sure didn't ride it much right away.
Unless my eyes fail me, the original post of this beauty shows a '71 with the engine case numbers on the drive side just above the timed breather. It must have been built early in '71. We've had some discussion about it being moved to the flat on the case later in the year. Seems to have occurred somewhere between s/n 144000 to 146XXX. We may have to have a thread to find out when that occurred for a trivia question.
