Nice looking cycle.

How long have you had it ?
Andover Norton note someplace they have recently made up some orange seats on request for customer(s)....

That paint looks to be a metallic green ??

had it for along time, the seat did not come with it, I found it later and Bombshell! yes it is Candy Apple Green and it is correct.

What year is it ?
What is that colour described as in the Norton brochures ?

Don't think I've seen another one like it.

you will find no written reference to candy apple green , however I am convinced that it is correct. Perhaps some of the persons that were around at that time can clear it up.

How interesting.

45+ year old flawless paint examples though.
How did that come about, we wonder. ?

Was the repaint accurate ??

Some Atlas's did have a green finish, that could well have been a candy green (not having seen one up close and personal).
That finish was listed as an optional choice though - and was a lighter green shade.

Both of those early examples had black cylinders/barrels - I have an early one too which is the same in that respect, but I'd been led to believe that it should have had silver ones. Can someone who knows please advise?

For my bike, yes, I have two original fuel tanks now and they give 95% positive proof of the correct color, I could install one of them , however it is blotchy and old and will delaminate with the addition of fuel

Any chance we could see a pic of that one please ?
Seeing tanks BEFORE a repaint is very convincing....

I have 68 but it appears as an S model. It was originally metalflake red.
Your silver colour looks the part and may have been a colour for traffic police or something.
A lot of Commandos went to Arabia and I recall a picture in a magzine of a dumped pile of them[ not aware of the NC years].
Getting to a final paint finish is a stepwise refinement and the USA may have not wanted an all silver bike for example.
Yours may be very early ( :
I was not aware of a recall on the 68 frame?
I checked my 68 engine numbers in the past to confirm as I could not account for the 69 S look.
However I know bikes have to be assembled prior to the release year date.
There are no relief holes or mounts on the back of the timing chest for a mag or distributor and it is merely blank and appears to be the original casting texture.
Normal timing case like 69 -70.
Rocker caps are coarse ancients like a Dominator or SS.
Other differences in the 68 S to my M/F Purple 71 roadster are the rear mudguard, and its bkt/mounts and holes. The rear guard which is unique seems to fit as if original parts?
I cannot confirm the frame number on the plate but I think they are the same as the engine.
The gearbox kickstart is large and follows angular lines not like the 71 curved ones.

A 68 that now looks cosmetically like a 69 would have to have been modified by a previous owner !?
That what 45+ years of previous owners is likely to have resulted in.....
