Hi all
Getting rid of the zener diode and rectifier and installing a podtronics. Here’s the thing, the project came with a Lucas 47204 stator with three wires. Apparently that means it’s single phase 6 volt. I was surprised by this as I thought late year model Atlas’s came 12 volt. Could be that a previous owner may not have known what they were doing. Then I find out that people convert this stator to 12 volt by joint two of the three wires?…..Anybody done this?

Alternators are not 6v or 12v, the regulator sets the V output, early labelled '6V' alternators will run connected to a 12V zener but may be down on Watts compared to the later ones. The 47204 is 120W.

Back in the day when converting 6 volt bikes to 12 volt, joining two of the wires together on the old stator was the way to go. Effectively it's getting full output from the alternator permanently, rather than switching in extra power when the lights are in use which the 6 volt system did. Can't remember which wires you join though.
