Out of curiosity did any mirrors come with the project? I'm looking at 50's Nortons and not many have mirrors. I'd like to see what the period correct ones were like. I believe they didn't come fitted from the factory, they were bought aftermarket. Maybe because they were considered "safety" items and not considered cool at the time.
Bar-end or clamp on round Stadium mirrors would possibly be your best option.

Progress - fettling the rear mudguard and tank strap . The tank mounting rubbers need thinning on their outside edges for the tank to seat . The tank strap itself had the same issues that NOrtOnelectr had - front loops too big and rubber channel too wide . I re shaped the loops and Norvil is apparently trying to source rubber
channel of the correct width . Tomorrow will see the fuel tank opened from beneath to attack the dents .

Mirrors were something they could charge extra for.

Mirrors were considered to be a bit too fancy, for manly men.

Mirrors weren’t held in high regard as safety items, because you were supposed to look round properly.

What brand are the rear shocks, where did you get them?

Big dent in tank largely gone now -

Starting to puzzle out seat/ tank locations - tight squeeze as headlamp tinware hits tank before steering stops when seat is in place . The bolts on seat pan are a little dodgy so that may be part of the trouble. It may be that the ears of the seat pan tuck under tank ? Any input from those more knowledgeable than I would be appreciated.

Norton really got the lines of this bike right !

some of the shapes are slightly Art Nouveau in their droopiness ( seat, mudguards and less so, the tank)

The seat will want to slightly lay on the tail of the tank. Sounds like your tank is too far forward. I’d say get your tank positioned right for clearance, figure out the strap, then fit the seat.
Thanks kernel - with the tank set back and minimal clearance between tank and headlamp ears and forks against steering stops the bolts on the seat pan miss the holes in the crossbar slightly but the bolts are loose and the front of the seat pan is pretty bent up .I think the next step is to uncover the seat and see what’s up with those items .

I had read that the seat was held on by a type of wing-nut. Maybe somebody can verify this to be true of a Wideline?

Richard, if you need another seat pan let me know.

I made some and lost one on the second or third ride. I’ve been looking for a locking nut type. A pic would be great.
