Gary Thwaites has just won four races in a row on Dave Watsons 1007cc Seeley with JS lightweight pistons, JS stage 3 cam kit/lightweight lifters, Seeley type frame, Maney cases, crank etc & and extensive modifications.

According to tuner Gordon Humpherys "The engine is much smoother and power up to 7300 RPM [previously it was only good to 5500 with the heavy pistons] ... we are well happy with the bike and all your gear that is inside the engine."

The photo below shows Gary tucked in and leading at Pembery 2012. Following him is Cormac Conroy on a 100+BHP 930cc BSA triple. Cormac won the post classic races on the BSA Rocket triple but this time Gary beat Cormac in all four 1300cc classic races. You can see from the photo that Gary is a full on rider. Its great to see Norton in front where it belongs and to have all this development pay off with these wins.

I'm constantly amazed by the size and scope of Norton-doom, estimating only about 10% active online. Its been a while but I know what its like to have to be careful with throttle or just fish tails out of line. So this one grabs me in the groin. One liter or 1000 cc equals 61.023 cubic inches. 750 = 45 cid. 920cc ~56 cid.

Dave Watson/Gary Thwaites. What a team.

Jim has the goods. Proof is in the pudding.

Congrats on the success of all involved in getting a Norton twin to achieve that feat over a powerful triple. Those of us who race classics in Ireland know Cormac, who comes from Rathdrum in Co. Wicklow (and of course we know his bro, Seeley 920, who is a member of this forum). Cormac is a fine pilot and the man to beat in his class.

Kenny — am I correct that you will be racing in England this year? The best of luck and I will be following your progress.

Dave

Thanks for sharing....

and Kenny, if you make it over to Sweden to race, look me up and I'll help you out, lend you my van etc.

Mike

Dave,

I will be at Cadwell May 6 & 7 with the CRMC on Minnovation Racing's Seeley Commando. Hope you can come by.

Mike,

Wow, thanks for the offer. Very generous. Sweden is an amazing place. I was there a few years ago. It was cold, but the girls were tall and beautiful!

Last thing Gary needed :D Cormac is on fire on the big triple. Gary has beaten him on Dave Watsons Seeley Commando a fair few times but if Gordon says the bike now revs to 7500! It may happen a bit more often. These two riders have been the ones to watch for a few seasons now.
Trouble is Jim :D
I have heard a rumor that Brendan Ryan owner of Cormacs bike is having a lightweight kit made for the triple?

Hope to be at Cadwell to watch from the back of the grid.

Chris

ps have a watch of this (John Lester big GSX 1100) at Cadwell

Just to add to my last post.
On the Cadwell video at about the 4 minute mark you will see a guy in White leathers. This is the Minnovation bike that Homeslice will be riding :D
Here is hoping for Sunshine that weekend.

Chris, I've been studying that vid. Thanks for the post. See you in 3 weeks.

The 83mm pistons weigh only 235 grams bare. Some of the RPM improvement is due to the seriously radical JS stage 3 cam. This is the perfect cam for large displacement race Nortons.

Gee - I wonder where he got that idea?

Congratulations Jim.
I could look it up and calc it but you'd know off the top of your head, what piston speed is that engine peaking at?

Cadwell - what a beautiful track.

Enlighten us Chris, What is a lightweight kit for a triple?? :?

Hi John

Hope your out racing this season?
Please look after our friend if I am not available :D

The person in question thought Jerry Legget might be doing some work for Brendan? I thought it could be jseng?
Triples pistons have probably moved on lot more than Commando ones. Terry Mooring had the Pretech ceramic barrels. Phil Pick the mk2 lighter Corrilo rods. All many moons ago. but I have not seen any pistons though?
I still have works Omega in mine!!!

All the best, hope to share a pint with you at Cadwell if I am allowed out. Chris

Bodgit and leggitt more likely!! It got a new clutch this year, and that's about as much as has been done to it in 5 seasons, apart from a layshaft about 4 years ago! It's news to us anyway!

The biggest thing was that Brendan told Cormac top get his finger out or he'll be sacked......nothing more needed.

I might go to Cadwell to watch, if so I might see you there
