Hey All,

Does anyone have source for proper fenders/mud guards for ‘71/72 Commandos? The Ones Andover supplies are simply ‘73/74 stainless units drill (poorly) for the earlier tail light. I’m looking for the correct chromed steel, round profile pieces. The SS D profile units currently available don’t fit the shape of the early tail light or the front stays (there was another thread about this a while ago). I was lucky enough to find a very good original front at a recent swap meet, no luck on a similar rear. You can see how poorly the tail light fits on the new SS one, i highly doubt it survive long stressed like this. I‘m considering getting some time on my buddies English wheel and see if I can correct the profile.
I contacted Andover and they have no plans to produce correct ones.

I have a 71 original with brackets powder coated black if interested pm me.

I’m going to the AMCA swapmeet in Dixon, Ca next Saturday. I’ll look to see if any are there. I know what they are as my ‘72 has the originals that I had rechromed in 1998.

Thanks, this weekend is our biggest local swap meet as well, fingers cross. There do seem to be some good items coming out of the woodwork in the last year or so, looks like some of the borders are loosening their grips.

I’m back from the Dixon AMCA show and Swapmeet…..no fenders there. Actually I didn’t buy anything. Got some good photos of 40s and 50s Indian Chiefs though.

This set is surely from India but they have the eBay Guaranteed Fit cert. I have no idea how good the fenders are or how hard it is to get your money back with the eBay Guaranteed Fit money back guarantee. Could be worth a try.

Also when using the correct fenders….the front fender stays are slightly different from earlier and later ones. See these with the double wave near the fender attachment area that are the correct ones for ‘71-‘72 Commandos.

I didn’t have any luck at our meet either. Lots of old Harley stuff, almost no Norton. Still hunting, it’s riding season now, project season resumes in the fall. I may look into that link Greg posted, the pictures in the ad show a lot of extra holes in the rear fender. I‘d want better pic before sending them any cash. The rear is my main issue, I found a very good original front last fall and I have original stays.

There is another motorcycle Swapmeet on July 9. I will keep my eyes open for a rear fender.
