Definitely lasted longer than that Knut...
I started it up today with the Theil pipes and got it good and warm and probed around with my electronic stethoscope, to try and ID the noise... but guess what... no noise (above the usual clatter that is)!
So, my current thinking it was just the hydraulic tappets. I’ll be getting it serviced, so new oil, before getting it out on the road again and will, of course, be keeping my ears open !
Hi Tony,
Yes oil light off etc.
Yes it was cold, so thick oil is a possibility.
But so is thin oil. The factory use Silkoline / Fuchs and I have had bad experiences with their oil breaking down before. I thought my BSA R3 engine was shot cos the oil light was on, long-story-short the Silkolene oil had lost its viscosity, after one weekend on the track in hot weather. New oil, problem solved. So it is not beyond all possibility that similar has happened in mine, after all we had a very hot summer here and I had it on the track in hot temps.
The Thiel pipes are NOT that quiet Tony, far from it! I had the noise issue with the old pipes.

Hi Pete,I have just brought a new Naked Norton Dominator which has had a dead flat battery on arrival and had numerous problems with electrics. No head lights which was a relay under the tank.Nigel,
FWIW,
Any ABS system I have ever seen will revert to “normal” braking when a fault shows itself. So basically you will be riding with regular brakes. I also agree with you guys that since the speedo is not seeing a signal you have a ABS light. I’m just not sure if the ABS system is causing the speedo malfunction or is ir the other way around.
Is there a separate fuse for the ABS? I also wonder if the newer bikes will communicate with an OBDII scanner with ABS features.
Wish you luck on finding the fault.
Pete
You have a new bike with ABS so it is using the sensors at the wheels . This one may be at the front wheel used for speedo maybe but there is a sensor at both wheels by the trigger discs . Check the gaps , I remember a member having issues with speedo and ABS light it was this.Hi Pete,I have just brought a new Naked Norton Dominator which has had a dead flat battery on arrival and had numerous problems with electrics. No head lights which was a relay under the tank.
Can you give me any pointers on the fixing no speedo reading and ABS light staying on solid after riding 50-60kms.
I don’t have a 961 so I can’t help you with that. Tony A (as usual) has great advice. I know that on my FJR with ABS it is a common issue with corrosion between the wheel sensor and the mounting bracket and the spacing between the sensor and signal ring if it is disturbed.Hi Pete,I have just brought a new Naked Norton Dominator which has had a dead flat battery on arrival and had numerous problems with electrics. No head lights which was a relay under the tank.

I changed the rear light bulb which had blown and this made the speedo work again after not working correctly for a few months 961 Sport 2012I don’t have a 961 so I can’t help you with that. IIRC the ABS and speedo share a fuse, located under the tank near the battery. I managed to dislodge mine once removing and re fitting the tank.Hi Pete,I have just brought a new Naked Norton Dominator which has had a dead flat battery on arrival and had numerous problems with electrics. No head lights which was a relay under the tank.

I have just replaced all relays with Honda types from David Silver.Factory fitted relays are an issue. Replace all relays with good quality ones.
