Hi Does anyone know if an LF Harris T140 Master cylinder can be used on the rear brake for a Commando MK3? Thanks Drummer99

The complete T140 assembly wouldn't fit a Mk3 (at least not without something being modified?)

Ok thanks for the info I have dismantled my master Cylinder it took considerable effort to get the actual cylinder unthreaded from the body Looks like I could get by with a rebuild kit and a new master cylinder I see they are available. Do you know if the cylinder comes complete with all the internal parts Thx Jack

Don't remember where I got it but it was a stainless replacement for a 78 triumph that I didn't use yet and it was complete, maybe Baxter's or Klemph's I hope you did remove the set screw in bottom of the housing!!

Yes I took the grub screw out but the cylinder was very tight I ended up putting it in the freezer overnight and heated the housing and had to use a pipe wrench to break it loose

The master cylinder must be set to the correct depth in the housing.

Sheet 110B, "PROCEDURE FOR RESETTING PUSHROD"
I found that following those instructions the cylinder was not in far enough with the 1/2” kit. I also believe P400 had the same issue. But that being said I would still follow the Lockheed instructions and be prepared to adjust accordingly

Please explain further as I have just had my rear master cylinder rebuilt and reassembled following those instructions and am currently having problems bleeding!

Yes, the Lockheed instructions are intended for the original 5/8" master cylinder.

Are the new cylinders 1/2 inch?
13mm. Not unless advertised as such.

"THIS IS A 13mm, SMALL BORE, TRIUMPH DISC BRAKE FRONT MASTER CYLINDER BARREL COMPLETE WITH PISTON AND SEALS . FITS ALL SINGLE DISC FRONT BRAKE MODELS. TI40 TR7 T150 T160 ETC. HAS STAINLESS STEEL BODY AND PISTON. THE SMALLER BORE, STANDARD IS 5/8", GIVES MORE LEVERAGE ON THE CALIPER AND THEREFORE A BETTER BRAKE WITH MORE FEEL.

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS ONLY SUITABLE FOR FRONT BRAKE SINGLE DISC APPLICATIONS. FOR REAR OR TWIN DISC USE SEE OUR OTHER LISTINGS."

Is it 13mm or standard 5/8"? As p400's problem was excessive pedal (, pushrod and piston) travel because the "one full turn and however much it takes to align the grub screw slot" procedure for setting the standard 5/8" master cylinder may not be enough for the 13mm cylinder as the piston/seal dimensions are different, therefore, the 13mm assembly could need an additional turn (or two?) although it is still extremely important that the bleed port should not be covered by the piston seal when the brake is released.

I believe they were loctited together on assembly, so heat is required to get them apart without damage.
After hearing of other peoples' woes I loose assembled and trial fitted mine (T160 front M/Cyl, so easier) to get the correct spacing before I finally assembled it with loctite.
