You just have to check the alignment of the o-ring in the strainer housing.
If the alignment is off, oil gets past the o-ring and heads straight to the threads of the cap, then down the outside of the housing......
You know the rest.
When the engine is running oil is passing through the housing on its way to the oil pump, when the engine is off, one way valve in the pump allows the oil to sit in the oil line from the oil tank to the pump. Plenty of time for the oil to find a way around a mis-aligned o-ring.
