I've just splashed out and bought a set of unused 32mm Premiums that were advertised in out local rag. Turns out that the seller had owned his Mk3 since he bought it new, and had done 230,000km on it before he sold it earlier this year - lots of interesting stories there
Anyway, he bought these carbs from Norvil - he had bought lots of stuff there over the years it seems, so they should have known him quite well.
When he recieved the carbs, he found that they were not jetted correctly for his MK3 (N0. 3 slide, 230 main jets, straight spray tube, 2 ring needles, no. 17 pilot jet), so he contacted Norvil to ask about exchanging them for the correct set.
The Bearded One told him that since he did not explicitly state in his order thatthey were for a MK3, this was not possible, it was his own fault (why does this sound familiar?). Bearing in mind that the poor bloke had spent a very considerable amount of dosh with the Bearded One over the last 30 years or so, it's not surprising that he was disappointed.
What's really amazing though is that he then bought a second set, this time specifying carefully that they were for a MK3 from Norvil again! I believe he received the correct items, but I simply do not understand anybody being treated this was and then going back and buying again. Perhaps this explains how Norvil manages to stay in business?
The good news is that for what I paid for the new unused carbs, I can order the correct bits for my non-standard bike and still be at slightly less than the new price (and helped out this other bloke).
I've just stripped and checked the carbs, no swarf or other bits, just the float levels needed adjusting. Time will tell what changes will be required, but I'm quite happy so far.
